Sahara Desert 9/15/2020 I want to take you to one of the hottest deserts in the world. The Sahara Desert is the largest and hottest desert in North Africa. The Sahara covers large parts of Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Western Sahara, and many more countries. It has a serfus area of 9,200,000 square kilometers (3,600,000 square miles) including the Libyan Desert which covers about 1/4 of the African continent! The Sahara is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the western edge, the Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Red Sea on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River on the south. Its landscape is very amazing it has towering sand dunes, dry lakes, dry valleys, and more, it even has a volcano! Emi Koussi (huge extinct), volcano it is in the Tibesti Mountains. It is 3,415 meters (11,204 feet) high and it’s the highest point in the desert. Around two million people live in the Sahara Desert. The people who live in the Sahara are mostly nomads. Nomads move from place to place.( we learn about nomads). Even though the destert is very hot it still has wild life. Many animals live in this desert. some of these animals are called, Saharan Silver Ant, deathstalker scorpion, Sand Viper, Desert Crocodile, African Wild Dog, and Saharan Cheetah The Sahara Desert is a wild and beautiful place. Even if it’s so hot and dry, there is so much beauty.
