Uber Application
Who can deny the importance of modern application? Uber is a transportation mobile application that allow
people to order a private car ride with only one press which is considered as important mobile application
for many people that makes transportation way easier than before, many people use uber application as they
think that it is cheaper and safer than the ordinary taxi, it also attracted many of unemployed to work with.,
by way or another it makes transportation easier.
First of all Uber is an important smartphone application that allow people to order a car ride easily from
their smartphones that has been started in March 2009 in San Francisco United states under the name of
Ubercab by the American computer programmers Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick, when they were
stucked in Paris unable to find a taxi so they wished if they could request taxi by a phone call, and at that
time it was very hard to find a taxi especially in San Francisco as it was allowed for only 1500 taxi in the
whole state, So they wanted to make transportations easier and to reduce cost of transportations to be
cheaper for its customer. But what started as a thought turned into the most important startup according to
Forbes.
The most significant problem is that Uber has faced a hard competition all over the world with many
companies like Ola in India, Careem in the middle east till their acquisition on March 2019 and Grab in
South Asia. And it also has not been easy for them in United states in their battle with Lyft. Although all of
that, Uber is now serving 95 million users in about 10,000 cities in more than 80 country, Uber co. is
targeting smartphone users, people aged from 16-34 represent 82% of Uber’s users. Mid-Income users are

the most with 47%, males and females are almost the same; females represent 48% males represent 52%.
All of these statistics shows that Uber is used by almost everyone.
In 2020, during the pandemic of Covid-19 Uber’s revenue has decreased to 11.14 Billion USD comparable
14.1 in 2019 which still great comparable with 0.4 Billion USD in 2014, Uber also increased their portfolio
by offering Uber Eats in August 2014 in many countries.
Uber has made a great influence on car riding industry. The taxi experience has changed, People stopped
the idea of running into a busy street and wait for empty taxi which sometimes takes long time. They
preferred Uber as they have offered secure, easy, fast and even sometimes less prices than ordinary taxis,
and all of that was achieved by merging the easy use of technology with their flexible payment ways which
made the demand for Uber increases and decreases for taxis. Uber also provided jobs for about 1 million
drivers in US and about 4 million all over the world. It makes it easy for anyone who owns a car to become
Uber driver, the average Uber driver earning is 400 USD per month. All of these features of Uber have
made consumers prefer Uber and made Taxis about to disappear.
To Sum up, Uber started in March 2009 by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick in US to make transportation
easier and safer than before, that was done by merging technology with the different ways of payment. Uber
is now used by 95 million users and 3-4 million drivers covered in about 10,000 cities in more than 80
country, then added Uber Eats in 2014 and made an acquisition with Careem Car in 2019. All of that
announces Uber as the biggest startup in the world according to Forbes.
