It is designed to provide a holistic approach to education through its uniquely balanced as well as comprehensive and broad based curriculum that covers all basic disciplines of study as well as the Core components that include the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). The programme also ensures that the students are able to respond effectively to the demands of an interconnected world and develop skills of critical thinking, communication, problem solving, collaboration, self-management and research skills. With the IB DP curriculum, the aim is to nurture a student’s academic excellence along with civic responsibility, articulateness and international understanding in order to create a generation of contributing global citizens. In order to select the subjects for the IB DP, please read the following guidelines carefully. • For IB DP full Diploma, a student at TSMS is required to study 6 subjects and complete the requirements of the three Core Subjects – Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). • The student is required to select one subject from each of the 6 subject groups. • In case a student does not want to select Group VI at all, he / she has the option to select an additional subject from either Group III or Group IV. • Students are required to take 3 subjects at HL (Higher Level) and 3 subjects at SL (Standard Level) • HL courses entail 240 hours and SL courses entail 150 hours of teaching. • Each subject can be selected only at one level; HL or SL • A Group II language pursued in Grade X will need to be taken at a subsequently higher level which is Language B. • Choice of Group II Language at the Ab Initio Level can only be selected if the student has not studied the language before/is new to the language. Taking 3 science subjects is discouraged by IB and will be granted at the school’s discretion in alignment with IB requirements. Subjects offered in any year will be dependent on sufficient student demand and are at the school’s discretion. Note: 1.
