GEOMETRY NAME _______________________ Constructions -- Perpendicular Bisector/Bisecting a Line DATE ______________ BLOCK ____ Materials needed: Compass and straightedge DIRECTIONS 1. 2. 3. 4. Draw a segment. Open your compass about 2/3 the length of the segment. Place the needle of the compass on one endpoint. Draw an arc (or two hash marks) from one side of the segment to the other. 5. Move the needle of the compass to the other endpoint and repeat the arc, keeping the compass the same size. You should have two X’s on each side of the segment. 6. Connect the X’s by drawing a line. This line is a perpendicular bisector of the segment.
