II. Perpendicular Bisectors
• A line that
 Intersects a line segment at a 90° angle
 Cuts the line segment in half
 Bisect means to cut into two
• Steps for Drawing with a Compass
 Open compass to a distance greater than half.
 Place the compass on the first point and draw an arc.
 Place the compass on the second point and draw an arc.
 Use a ruler to draw a line segment through the points of
intersection of the arcs
 Draw hash marks on each side of the line segment
* Hash marks are used to indicate equal line segments.

• Steps for Drawing with a Protactor
 Measure the length of the line segment
 Mark a point at the midpoint of the segment
 Place the center of a protractor at the midpoint and
mark a point at 90°
 Use a ruler to connect the two points with a line
segment.
 Draw hash marks on each side of the line segment
