learned that qualities such as dedication put
towards hard work and effort is what makes a
leader successful. Moreover, it is important to
note that business is not bound by any rules

knows the limits of her company; moreover,
she plans to buy insurance if her business
expands to increase security. The learners
deduce that this is commercial awareness.

a Successful Leader
PHOTO DOCUMENTATION OF THE INTERVIEW
INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION PAPER/ PERSONAL PLAN
Aquino, Francheska Clare V.
Starting a business requires an entrepreneur to invest in terms of money, time, and
sacrifices. Despite these investments, many have not succeeded in their business ventures. When
it comes to business, every person who wants to become an effective leader should have some
knowledge about the important roles of a leader. Being an effective leader is important in a
business since it has been the main and primary reason for the growth, development, and
innovation of an organization. Leaders are the one who leads his/her followers to become inspired
and motivated working together to achieve their goal.
Having experience interviewing an actual entrepreneur gave me a distinct perspective on
the term itself. I’ve had an inspiring interview with Ms. Kim Marjorie Presbitero, an actual
business owner or entrepreneur of SRC II Rice Trading. She gave me some wisdom and knowledge
on how to have a successful business. With her 7 years of working experience, she decided to
make her own business which is rice trading that has been in operation since April 2021-present
and managed to become successful despite the pandemic. She also discussed her experience and
what they do in her business. According to her, in a business, challenges are part of it. There might
be a challenge within your employees, or maybe a problem with the customers. As a
businessperson, you must accept challenges for the leader can make improvements. Entrepreneurs
are everyday people trying to unravel everyday problems, eventually creating a more robust life
for themselves and the others around them.
I’ve had such an amazing experience interviewing an entrepreneur. I have learned many
things that I might use in the future. As per my interviewee, she has said that “The success of an
entrepreneur does not lie on destiny because there is no such thing. For a person to be a successful
businessman, he/she must be dedicated and put in an effort.” And also, not having a degree doesn’t
make you a less person. You can still own a business when you have the will, dedication, and hard
work to achieve that goal. What she has said gave me a proper understanding of being a leader and
having a business.
Cortado, April Joy S.
Throughout the interaction with the chosen leader, it gave me new perspectives I should
consider for me to improve as a student and as an individual who will seek for my chosen career
in the future. The traits that a successful leader should emphasize, which left an impression to me,
are commitment, honesty and gratefulness, and commercial awareness and sociability.
During the interview of the chosen leader, one thing that crossed my mind was she must’ve
been committed and passionate on the business she’s handling. Moreover, I think, as a student, it
is a trait that should be observe. For instance, choosing accountancy as my course, I had to deal
with it and be responsible as it was my free will that made me end up with the decision. Likewise,
I agree when the chosen leader stated that being an entrepreneur does not lie on destiny. Instead,
it is the perseverance and commitment. In addition, the viewpoints of the chosen leader enlightened
me to some traits I need to instill if I want to be successful. First, through commitment, handling
challenges may be overcome by having the determination to communicate effectively within the
organization. I think communicating builds strong relationship within the organization.
Communication helps establish clear expectations and goals individuals in a business wants to
achieve. Likewise, it raises the reliability and trust of employees to their leader. Second, being
honest and grateful increases loyalty and relationship continuity and longevity between employees
and customers (Niall & Salvatore, 2018). Also, transparency in business makes the employees
productive which helps builds more trust and loyalty to the customers. Similarly, practicing
honesty as an accountant student encourages authenticity and increases confidence in every work
that I do. Lastly, being commercially aware and observing sociability are skills needed and should
be sharpened. As a student, knowing the significant information or aspects of the course I took is
essential as it would help me understand how I could use them in real-life basis. Furthermore,
interacting with others like customers in the business and receiving feedbacks from them could
improve the growth of the business and enhance the products/services they provide. For instance,
in school organizations, interacting with the members in an organization increases one’s
productivity and efficiency. Likewise, it is an opportunity to meet new people and make
connections with individuals who have the same interests as I am.
In conclusion, practicing the traits stated above are considered to be significant and
essential as it would help to strengthen the skills and knowledge I need as a student and for my
chosen career in the future.
ABSORBING THIS EXPERIENCE
Justice Hendrix D. Feleo
I learned many things in my lessons in Leadership and Decision Making. It is without a
doubt, that being a leader is challenging. From class groupings, to small businesses, and to high,
corporate level, a leader is necessary to initiate operations and management to create progress and
garner results.
My experiences and decisions towards the creation of this paper and group work are
invaluable for the future. The research details key themes, concepts, skills, or other terms. There
was not enough time to research what exactly these things are. Moreover, the interactive interview
with only 10 open-ended questions, and only one chosen leader is not enough data to make graphs
or tables from. That is why us the learners decided to go with the Inductive Thematic Analysis in
order to further gouge out and understand as to what are the things that contributes or are a part of
a successful entrepreneur. My experience from writing parts of the paper, coming up with similar
research evidences, and interviewing with Ms. Kim Presbitero, definitely were fun and stressful.
The results or transcription of this paper can be done better, but it still is the work that I and my
group are proud of. Indeed, 9 concepts from this research are things that elucidates and answers
key questions regarding success as a leader. I have learned a lot from both doing this work and
from Ms. Kim Presbitero. Some of the concepts I already know of whereas in the readings, there
were some key details that would relate to my subject, Accountancy. They stand out as they tell
me what exactly happens in the business, why it would be beneficial, and it answers questions
regarding working in adulthood. I believe I can make use of this personally, as a student, these
readings are a reminder that I should put forth more effort moving on forward.
To conclude, I thank my groupmates and Ms. Kim Presbitero for this experience. I have
learned a lot from the readings and will take it into heart and mind to further my resolve as a
student becoming a future member of the work force. I realized there are things that I am missing,
things that I can do better, things that I did well in this paper. This realizations will help me as a
student, member of a group, and personally as an individual.
Larosa John Paul D.
In today's society, it's difficult to tell whether leaders are telling the truth or demonstrating
good behavior in the performance of their duties. As you can see, the Philippines is struggling to
deal with corrupt government officials. It is one of the most serious issues they are dealing with.
But I still believe that there are some people who still understand the importance of always working
precisely on their specific jobs. One of them is Ms. Kim Marjorie A. Presbitero, a CPA Board
Passer, and an entrepreneur.
Ms. Kim has been interviewed. As the interview progresses, one of her responses to the
question, "What are the things you enjoy most about your job?" ", imprint on my mind. "So ayun,
having good feedback from customers is really one of the nakakaenjoy na part of the business,"
she says, it reminds me of my teenage days, when I can get everything, I want. It helps me towards
becoming a better person. Enjoying what you have, as well as what Ms. Kim does, can increase
your effectiveness. It is encouraging to see that she enjoys what she does, as this enables her to be
an effective leader.
The success of her business venture inspired me greatly as an aspiring CPA someday. I am
physically and mentally exhausted, but this research has helped me change my mindset to rely less
on fate and more on hard work, dedication, and effort. It motivates me to put in extra effort every
day. Leadership can be a factor to motivate and encourage people to continuously make change
and push them to change (Hao & Yazdanifard, 2015).
Patricia Yvonne L. Palma
As I learn throughout the lessons in my subject Leadership and Decision making, I kept in
my mind that there is no such thing as there are people who are born to be leaders. Leaders
learn from their experiences and study on how to be one. It is not just a smooth path where you
study on how to be a leader and be a successful one, it really depends on how you handle
yourself and other people into one goal.
Our interview happened last November 6,2020 and our chosen leader is Ms. Kim Marjorie
Presbitero a co-owner of the SRC Rice Trading business. The interview lasted for only just 21
minutes, but the interviewee’s answers were greatly explained and highly inspirational. As the
interview started, we asked the interviewee 10 open-ended questions that will help us gather
data in our study. All of her answers were explained thoroughly and is well-spoken, as we
finished the interview, we were able to identify the characteristics of our successful chosen
leader. There are characteristics that we included which are the following: self-motivated,
commitment, honesty and gratefulness, sociability, commercial awareness, reliance/trust
others are how they gather business info, challenges inside and outside the business, and skills
as an entrepreneur.
I strongly agree to what Ms. Kim has mentioned in one of the questions in which she stated
that business is not about destiny itself, but about the combination of things you do like hardwork and perseverance. Being able to handle a business is not just done by business majors but
can be also done by any people who is highly motivated to build a business. Handling a
successful business is not just a one time shot where when handle one it automatically means
it will be successful, but there is no easy journey in new things, struggles will help us further
improve our skills and can also improve our personality. Trust is fundamental in every business
because the organization will not function well if there is a lack of trust on the team. Trust
helps both the leader and employee to work well and run the operations of the businesses
smoothly. Success in a business does not depend on your degree but highly depends in your
skills and motivation to become a successful and effective leader.
As a conclusion, I can say that Ms. Kim Marjorie Presbitero is one successful and effective
leader in a business because she handled the business well. I learned that being a successful
leader and having a successful business really depends on how you handle it and how you
improve things, because as a leader you must learn new things that will help you to handle the
business operations and also your employees. Effective ways of leadership will lead to success
not only to the leader and employees but also the business itself, there may be times where
crisis might occur but when a leader knows how to handle the team, they will surely surpass
the challenge and become a stronger team that is dedicated to further strive for more success
to the business, that will be a great benefit for all.
Salinas, Justine Marc C.
Being a leader in a business, no matter big or small requires an enormous number of skills
and fellowship. Also having integrity and dignity to the business, customers, and employees.
Sometimes you have good vibes with your employees when they are doing an excellent job. At
some point, you need to discipline them to do their responsibilities and obligations. Our
interviewee for this final requirement is Ms. Kim Marjorie A. Presbitero, a CPA Board Passer,
and an entrepreneur of a small rice store.
Honestly the first days, weeks, and a month after our professor gave the final requirement I
am in a little bit of panic. Because we are only 3 members and most people already have full
teams, I think of myself, what are we going to do? Can we do it for just the three of us? What am
I gonna do? Then suddenly four feu students were looking for a group, now we are complete.
Then one of the new members has a relative that has a business which is great. There was a little
bit of delay in the interview due to time constraints of her schedule, but we were able to
interview her. During the interview, there were a few of her statements that I like. One example
is that even though her employees in the business are family members she is still strict
sometimes in order to remind them of their obligations and responsibilities. Another one is that
how she keeps the inventory correct in order to avoid any problems with the BIR. Lastly, she is
open to getting insurance if ever their business expands this indicates that she is and will be very
flexible for whatever happened in the future this characteristic of her reflects me. Her being a
CPA also helps her in the business, she no longer need to hire an accountant.
I hope that current and future entrepreneurs will be like Ms. Kim. She is like a mother in
business, she will help you take care of you but take the necessary measures to ensure
professionalism in the workplace. I hope that one day I can be like her CPA that has business
that in demand even anything happens someone and someone will buy my products/services I am
more inspired to work smart and hard. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn
more, do more and become more, you are a leader." By John Quincy Adams(2019) Therefore I
will say Ms. Kim is one of a great leader.
Toledo, Sarah Nicole D.
I have learned the different effective business values and traits/characteristics of business owners
which help them to become a successful leader. And those are commitment, self-motivation,
specific skills, reliance/trust, commercial awareness, challenges, sociability, honesty &
gratefulness, and business information gathering.
During our 21 minutes of open-ended interview with Ms. Kim Marjorie Presbitero, the coowner of SRC rice trading, even though it was a short interaction, I can say that I have learned
from her what strategies and techniques are for managing and running rice trading business. By
expressing her thoughts and ideas based on her experience with her own business, I can see her
determination and deep passion for the company she built since it is not easy to run a business
while studying for a master's degree, but Ms. Presbitero handles it very well. The interview taught
me different circumstances as an owner has been through; business activities must be practices
and good traits/characteristics, which is part of becoming a successful leader. First, commitment
is one of the traits that a leader must have. A leader who is doing their chosen craft with
commitment is mainly driven by their dreams which helps them strive harder to achieve their goals.
And as a student, this really helps me to still be committed to the course I chose since lately I have
been feeling down and I am losing my motivation in pursuing my dream to graduate as an
accountancy student. Second, self-motivation also allows her to create and execute a plan by
initiating with herself only, and it made her more independent with her own choices and actions.
Third, I agree with the statement of our interviewee that a college degree does not matter on
running a business. However, being a Certified Public Accountant herself and studying for a
master's degree helps her have an initial knowledge and hone her skills as a business owner,
especially when it comes to financial issues. As an accountancy student and person who grew up
having family businesses, I really want also to use the knowledge I learn in my college course to
continue our family businesses. Fourth, according to Ms. Presbitero, choosing a person you can
genuinely trust with your business is essential. Her family and friends are part of those people.
Fifth, a commercially aware leader can produce fresh ideas, develop new products, recognize
business opportunities, enhance operations, and provide value for the better outcomes of the
company. Sixth, there are many challenges you may experience in a business, but the important
thing is you know how to cope and find solutions to those problems. Likewise in life, you may
also encounter small and big life challenges, and it is okay as long as we learn how to bounce back
and put our life back together despite those. Seventh, it is crucial to have social interaction with
different people and personalities you may encounter. Also, it helps the business to attract potential
customers. Eighth, being honest with your customers can gain their loyalty to continue patronizing
your products especially. Lastly, business gathering information is used by organizations to
generate and collect critical insights that may be used to improve the company's overall
performance.
To sum it up, through the interview with Ms. Presbitero I learned that a successful leader must
be innovative and have a deep passion for her chosen craft. Running a business is not an easy task,
it takes a lot of time and effort, that is why a leader should be firmer with their every decision. And
the success of the business is not just only depending on the leader, but also with the brainstorming
and help of everyone within the company.
