Resume of Person Interviewed
Leaders are people who have the skill to influence people by means of
notable
communications and proper management towards a productive work (Mkheimer, 2018). Leaders
embody the whole organization and thus, should expose an extraordinary and strong personality.
Mr. Haliwin W. Borromeo Jr. is the current Chief Executive Officer of the AST Logistics and
Tours Corporation. He graduated at Polytechnic University of the Philippines at Sta. Mesa Manila
with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Data Processing and Management in 1991. He pursued
Computer studies, but later on due to opportunities and experiences he had in his life, he was able
to take a different path. He worked on different companies and agencies under different fields as
sales & marketing staff, documentation staff, assistant, coordinator and eventually landed on
logistics. Due to these jobs that he had, he was able to acquire different skill. Among the skills he
was able to learn, the most important is the communication to other people. According to Sacks
(2017), one of the most essential traits a leader should possess is to know how to communicate
effectively to people. This is the skill that led Mr. Haliwin Borromeo Jr. to start a business in the
fields of transportation. Being someone who knows how to communicate well, he gained the trust
of his colleagues and subordinates. Together, they were able to stabilize the growth of their
corporation. As the company does not only prioritizes the safety and quality of the transportation
of the clients, the well-being and great importance to employees are ensured as well. With the
help of everyone’s hard-work they were able to drive this business into success for three years and
counting.

were able to successfully led their businesses. This activity would also allow the students under
the said course to practice their leadership skills as they carry-out the presentation, Capella.
Interviewer 2: All of the questions were made purely with the intention of filling in the aim of
the study. So we just want you to sit back and relax as you give us your honest answer
regarding these questions. We are more than grateful to have you here this evening.
Interviewee: Likewise, Madam.
B. INTERVIEW QUESTION 1
Interviewer 5: To proceed, first question will be can you tell us about a little background and
history of your business? From where it started and how were you able to manage it up until
now?
Interviewee: Well the business started, uhhhm basically, it started only on a, on a renting only
a few cars, mga isa o dalawang sasakyan lang, so-- from there nakita po natin yung ano yung
kakulangan sa, sa transpors-transportation system and then we tried na mag-explore using, ahhh,
different types of TNVS, mga Lalamove, Transportify. Well, nung na-try natin yan, nakita
namin talaga na merong ano potential. Into climbing into logistics, makikita niyo naman siguro
Uhmmm then, eventually, nag-start
Uhmm up to now,
C. INTERVIEW QUESTION 2
Interviewer 5: Thank you for that, now, next question is, as a businessperson who have
succeeded this far, how do you define success?
Interviewee : we-well dep-depende kasi ang success, it come into different forms e. So sa
success, uhh- it differ uhhh it, it defines upon the peculiarity of the person kung ano yung, yung
definition niya. But For me, if you ask for me, yung success ay ‘di naman na-kacount yan
karaming natulungang empleyado, so, so far yun ang magiging definition us for us or for me ng
success.

So from there, sasabihin ko yun
ang magiging basic definition ko ng success.
D. INTERVIEW QUESTION 3
Interviewer 2: That is such a good advice po. So next question po would be leadership plays a
vital role when it comes to business and was found to be a key to doors of opportunities and
goals. As a leader of your business, what do you think are the most important principles when it
comes to managing your business as well as your employees?
Interviewee: Actually, ang- ang perfect, ang-ang magandang quality, yun-yun ba ang gusto
ninyong malaman? Nung-nung ano, nung tanong niyo, nung uhmmm principles o manage
business? Ang principle yan is,
Interviewer 2: Opo
‘no. Nagkaroon kayo ng feasibility, nagkaroon kayo nag-conduct kayo ng study, tapos nag-nag
hands on kayo. So ‘yon ang number one element ‘no. Ang principle ng success —nung principle,
nung-nung successes nung ano. nung management ng business. Second, transparency, kailangan
Also, may
E. INTERVIEW QUESTION 4
Interviewer 2: Okay po sir. Thank you po for that. So, next question po would be: It is
important for a business to have its unique selling proposition. What do you think is the
strongest and unique asset of your business?
Interviewee: Uhh, pinaka asset nating yung ano— yung, uhh— safety and reliability nung ano

pirasong mouse, kapag nag loose dapat yan isinusurrender mo talaga sa client yan, with- with
proper transmittal form. Yan- yan ang mga hinahanap nung client, minsan- minsan actually maymay time ano e, ang alam ng client isang macbook lang ippull out pero actually dalawang
macbook ang ippull out. Noh?
So ang naging asset namin dyan,
especially zoom. Zoom is one of our ano- biggest client eh, sa- in terms of Logistics noh. Uhhyung zoom uhh- video, yung ginagamit. Actually meeting yung ginagamit naten ngayon noh?
Pero yung iba ginagamit zoom. Zoom is our, one of the biggest client na hawak ngayon hano, sa
lahat ng macbook nila, lahat ng peripherals nila, tayo and ccare-care ng deliveries. So yung
naging asset natin don yun- napag kakatiwalaan kami, reliability, yan. Uhh- mapapagkatiwalaan
—That’s it.
F. INTERVIEW QUESTION 5
Interviewer 1: I think we can all agree on that statement sir. Our next question would be:
Experiences are said to be the greatest teachers and it allows you to see wider perspectives. As a
businessman who was be able to reach far- reach this far, what would you probably tell your
younger self before you have succeeded this far? Is there also any advice you can give to those
who plans to start a business?
Interviewee: Actually yung- yung- yung- yung- yung experience sa best teacher, yung parin yon
pero irerevise ko lang ng konti noh? kung- kung gusto niyo mag business, A person with
experience is the best teacher. Baket? You dont need to have an experience para magkaroon ka ng
best experience. why?

iembrace dahil nag sasabi na yung tao sayo kung ano yung experience niya. so on- on- to sum itto sum it up: experience of the experience person plus your experience is the best teacher.——So
Actually uhm.. actually yung experience mo
kahit hindi mo na dapat maexperience eh. If you trust somebody in terms of business, If you trust
someone in terms of your business noh. Do you have to undergo to his experience or her
experience?
niya kung pano deprived yung ano niya yung small business niya. Sa SM yung mes-kaya… kaya
tignan niyo yung SM wala siyang mercury drug diba? Do-… do the honor of mercury drug have
So ang
experience is not only yun. The best teacher is not the only based on your experience but the
experience of different person yun ang… yun ang dapat matutunan niyong ma-embrace or maabsorb. Okay ba yun anak?
G. INTERVIEW QUESTION 6
Interviewer 1: That’s some good advice sir, We’ll take note of that. Next question naman po is
Business is about being wise, unique yet you still need to be connected to the world, are you a
member of any entrepreneurship or business organization or association and why or why not do
you think it is important for your business?
Interviewee: Ah okay… Syempre ang business it is very essential na may business alliance ka
otherwise mahihirapan ka. In terms of Speaking of our company an-uhh… AST before kami
mag.. magpush through with our shuttle and logistics services nakipag coordinate muna kami
with ano with.. SM Santa Rosa Laguna ayan… yung SM Santa Rosa Laguna through Attorney
nakipag ano nakipag uhh.. collaborate eh noh..
At the start wala
kang talagang business alliance eh. Tandaan niyo wala ka pang business alliance. Na di8

develop ang business alliance through your hardwork yung mga pagiging perseverance mo
Sampung items eh noh. So.. from there na-test ka nasubukan ka napaka halaga yun. Yung
magkaroon ka ng break. Uhh… sa... sa business mo. So…. Ang… Ang pagkakaroon mo ng ano
ng uhh… connections napaka halaga din uhhh…. Ang importante naman pag nagkaroon ka ng
connections pahalagahan mo rin yung pagiging business partners ninyo uhh… Marunong kang
Tapos uh… Ano pa yung tanong? And
why do you think.. Kailangan yun kailangan yun anak yung meron kang business ano
connections, alliance, friends, supports from others kailangan po yun ana- mga anak. Kailangan
yun.
H. INTERVIEW QUESTION 7
pinapalago niyo ngayon. So ang sunod po nating katanungan ay. Leaders work together with
paper works, daily reports and information. As a leader, do you keep track and do regular
planning with your business?
Interviewee: Oh okay... Yes, oo kailangan may regular tracking ka although number one
uhhh…. You cannot do that alone kailangan mo ng.. kailangan mo magkaroon ng dedesigmarunong ka mag designate noh we have no... we have uhh…tearn designate to a proper person
yung bawat tinatrack mo. Uhh…. Pano ko ba maieexplain? Kasi parang… pano explain yan
uhh… mag-kailangan mo mag deputy, mag deputize or mag delegate sa isang bagay let’s say
uhh… for.. for… for.. business relations kailangan ang… ang ilalagay mo dyan is magaling
kailangan magaling mangolekta no? so, from them meron kang div – div… merong kang ano,

kang… isang bagay. Maganda kasi yung, yung… meron kang ahh… makakasama sa pag track
ng business, which is yun, yung mga… yun, yung mga… parang… ang tawag mo don is kung
may heads ka, department heads. Let’s say ahh… sa accounting meron kang accountant, sa I.T.
meron kang, syempre I.T, sa marketing, may marketing ka noh? From there sila ngayon mag
yung… pyramid no? yung pyramid.
track yung business mo. Wait lang ah… Excuse me.
Interviewer 3: Okay po, Sir.
Interviewee: Sorry may nag ano ha? Okay. Ano na, proceed tayo.
I. INTERVIEW QUESTION 8
Interviewer 3: Okay po, sir. So, question po is. Emotions can interfere when it comes to our
works. Do you think your emotions or mood can affect your business and your connection with
your employees, why so?
Interviewee: Ay, oo.
maapektuhan talaga yung empleyado mo doon. So… dapat yun talaga ma-magkaroon ka ng…
ma handle mo yung situation ahh… yung mood mo ma control mo, lalo nap ag may business
meeting ka. You know how to handle your anger ganon, your emotions, yung mood. Kase ano
eh… yung… ‘pag sayo naka tingin yung empleyado mo… ahh… pag nagkaron ka ng isang
word ng parang ma-disappoint sila o parang mawalan sila ng ano eh… malaking impact
operation po yon. So, kailangan kapag galit, kunwari meron kang ano, nainis ka, galit ka no?

panget yon.
May-may impact yung ano eh… yung operation nila
eh, may konting, may loses sila doon eh. So, ang… ang ano don, ang key doon… eh yung
magkaroon nang magandang mood yung ano mo… yung… yung leadership mo, yung
business mo. Yun po.
J. INTERVIEW QUESTION 9
Interviewer 4: Thank you for your answer, sir. Our next question is. It is a risk to start a
business and continue doing so until your sales become stable. Did you ever make up your
mind to come up with a bigger business in the future? If so, what do you think will it be?
Interviewee: Yes oo, maglelevel up yung AST, sa ngayon pa kasi ang agenda naming is sedan
business ng import, export and logistics. So napaka laking challenge saatin yan next year na
umpisahan yung tracking logistics natin yan ang magiging another venue ng ano natin’ services.
Hopefully, maayos na yan next year.
K. INTERVIEW QUESTION 10

Interviewer 4: Our last question po sir is What do you think is the most important part in your
business journey?
Interviewee: Ah okay yung journey namin, Most important part sa journey namin is yung
namin. Ang naging challenge pa nga samin that particular instance is e yung meron kaming
sinervice for a specific is yung transportify mayroong kami sinervice diyang client which is
nagstart ang service namin 1 am ng umaga and then natapos yung service namin 11 pm so more
or less 22 hours ang tagal ng sinervice naming and at the end of the day nung cinompute namin
Interviewer 2: We can try po sir

Individual Reflection Paper/Personal Plan
The interviewers were able to finish the said interview process. It was a long yet fruitful
interview session that everyone in our group was able to capture inspiring ideas that we could use
when we start our journey on this field. Business is said to be a risk that we should take if we
want to widen the horizons of our perspectives regarding products, profits and many aspects
(Nelson,2020). As for risk-taking, this is the vision that Mr. Haliwin Borromeo Jr. had when he
first started his business. He and his colleagues later on formed an alliance that became the
backbone of the AST Logistics and Tours Corporation. He shared to us inspiring ideas and tips as
a leader of the business he started. For several years, the business prospered and became
successful. Here are the individual captures of each member of the group regarding the interview
session.

A. Capella Mariz C. Fulgencio’s Individual Reflection Paper
“Mayaman ‘yan, may business ‘e” is the usual statement I always hear whenever people
see a businessman or woman on certain news or headlines. Little did they know that handling a
business is much more than that. Well, we can’t blame those people since they are not in the same
field. This is just an example of how people view businesspersons. Being a businessperson takes a
lot of courage, gives a lot of risks, vigilant decisions and most importantly being a good leader.
They also take note of rigorous tasks, good connections, and communications and pass through
se9i7uveral hurdles. This is the vision we have seen as we were able to learn the insights from a
businessperson’s viewpoint, and it was indeed fruitful.
Mr. Haliwin Borreomeo Jr. enabled us to see the success story of the logistics and tour
business he started. Together with his colleagues and subordinates, they were able to stabilize the
corporation for three years. The answers he gave us coincide with the learning we gained
throughout the course. LeBow (n.d) stated in her article that there are a lot of contributing factors
that make a business successful but, it all points out one factor, the people behind the business.
This is how the interviewee used his skill of communicating with other people contributed to how
he was able to start the company. With enough communication and good handling of people, he
gained the trust of his employees. For three years, he focused on the welfare and benefits of his
people. He worked hard on creating strategies for the business with them. There are principles he
took care of and connections he built with other business owners. Also, the way his emotions and
life problems were kept separated from his work he made sure that he handle it and never bring it
to his work so that the business won't be affected. There are visions he and his colleagues were
able to come up to. These are maybe for the corporation's future security and stability. Lastly, he
poses great importance on the hurdles they succeeded, because without it, the corporation won’t
be as great as it is now.
As the interview process was concluded, me and my group mates were mesmerized and
left in awe. It was a discussion that is indeed full of education. It was as if we were persuaded to
take the same path as Mr. Haliwin Borromeo Jr. I was inspired by how he started and handled the
business. I would also want to be someone like him, a person with great communication skill
because, after all, the greatest investment you can have is the people that trusts and respects you.
The rest will follow, and everything can be nourished. At first, we do have nothing so it is just
fine. We just need to remember that let’s make a progress together with those people we gained.

As we both go through this rough journey, it won’t be easy for sure. That is why as a future leader
that I foresee for myself, I would also take care of my people, with the great importance of their
welfare. I also want to be great like Mr. Haliwin Borromeo Jr. I will also develop my principles,
take note of the purpose of my business, take care of and build strong relationships with my
people, innovate new ideas and certainly surpass all the hurdles I that my future business will face.
That is the vision I will hold and prepare for the next journeys I will go to.
The activity was indeed fruitful for our group. It was a good requirement to nourish and
flourish the learning we gained from the Leadership and Decision Making course. We will take
this note as we further mature and learn for the next years. It was an amazing opportunity to gain
insights, learning and be inspired.
B. Kate Stefanie Torregoza’s Individual Reflection Paper
Building a business sure needs a long list of necessity. Connections, supporters,
transparency, patience and more for our said “long list”. Mr. Haliwin W. Borromeo, the owner
of the Alliance of Safety Transporters Logistics and Tours Corporation, shared with us a lot of
inspiring advice in our interview. Being a businessman or a business owner sure is hectic. I bet
it won’t be easy for us too when we start a business. Speaking of starting a business, I couldn’t
believe that Mr. Borromeo’s business is only in their 3rd year. They already reached a lot of
their goals. That’s not really surprising giving the hard work and enthusiastic kind of
environment they have inside their corporation.
Some notable viewpoints in the interview for me are the advice or words of wisdom that
Mr. Borromeo shared to us. Starting with his big statement, “People with experience is the best
teacher.” Because logically thinking, that is one major point. Why would we have to go through
all of the things that needs to be learned in the beginning when we can be enlightened with
someone’s wisdom? Who already experienced it? Given the fact that it will take a lot of time. I
know that experience do be the best teacher and time is a process but if you are oped minded
and ready to learn and do some brainstorming, you can avoid a lot of kinds of failure. All we
have to do is to find that experienced teacher that we can trust and we are good to go.
Moving forward to making the work place healthy. Because who would want to go to a
work place that is toxic? If only I know, of course I wouldn’t. if I’m going to start a business, I

would want my employees comfortable but still knows their responsibilities and has respect for
their fellow workers and me. Also not just for the workers or employees, also for the clients and
customers. I want them to feel safe and secure on working with us or while we are serving them.
Because clients being comfortable makes the business gains connection. That’s why we need
to value these kinds of relationships, not just with the client but also with our employee. Here
also includes the transparency Mr. Borromeo has mentioned. Where the environment reflects
on how you handle the business or who you are as a leader.
And for the last notable viewpoint for me is the very simple statement: having patience.
Whether if it is for your employee, clients, the process of the business or even for yourself.
Always have patience. He also mentioned controlling one’s temper. I, for one, have a bad
temper but I know I will manage as time goes by. Having patience plays a big role on how you
lead a business. Here will appear on how you handle non-fulfilling events that comes to the
business. You will have to know how to handle these kinds of struggles without your emotions
getting in the way of communicating. Businesses that are persistent, are capable to snap back
after a loss and get back on track after a loss, are by far the most successful (Gregory,2019). A
self-supporting business owner learns to understand and act independently of others is a typical
characteristic among successful business owners. Here will show how reliable you are as a
leader when it comes on overcoming these struggles.
As shown here that I learned and reflected on a lot of things but I knew that I need more
elaborated answers from the interview but I also know we can’t demand and take what was
given. We still received great advice and answers to reflect on and we are thankful for our
interviewee, Mr. Haliwin W. Borromeo, for participating.
C. Angelo Jal Borromeo’s Individual Reflection Paper
Based on our interview, I’ve learned on how to start a business and what kind of
mindset you need to learn or attained before starting a business. The Interviewee tells us on his
experience which he revised some motivational quotes on his perspective view. He also tackled
every successful businessman/woman story about handling their employees on their businesses
the way on how to treat them properly and he defined also what his real success is. In
Interviewee’s perspective, he claimed that the history of his business started from a small
business where he install a transportation van for certain malls such like SM Sta. Rosa Laguna

which handled by Atty. Rafael Giga. Afterwards his business started to grow then now his
business are partnered with KMC Zoom logistics and shuttles.
I acknowledge his revised quotes especially from his “The best teacher is not only based
on your experience but the experience of different person” this phrase absorbs and enlightens
my mindset that learning and trusting to others experience is a part of best teaching. And from
the Interviewee perspective helps me understand on being a leader on his experience. And the
essentials of having partners or joining business organization or association will come if you
learned how to handle the starting business and to be patient. And also tracking on business,
Interviewee claims that tracking alone is very difficult and stressful therefore you need to
assigned or designate a proper person or employee on their position. Such like Accountants
should be in accountant firm, IT’s should be in IT firms and so on so forth. The Interviewee
said that emotions can affects business which I wanted to stand this out. Because based on my
experience my emotions affects my interactions with people and it has big effect on my
academic performances. I agree to his statement that emotions has a BIG impact to the business.
I would conclude my reflection paper claiming that based on this interview, I’ve learned
many things and learned new quotes and methods of handling business. Maintaining a good
mindset is a healthy method of starting business and having a mentor who has an experience of
business which teach and guide you on how to deprive your pride and emotions. Therefore
from the interview, I’ve learned the manners of being a good leadership and successful
businessman.
D. Juan Karlo Garce’s Individual Reflection Paper
The interview is indeed a good discussion where students like us in the field could gain
numerous lessons we can use as we take this certain path in our lives.. The first question that
Angelo, asked is by telling us their background or history of their business. We all started from
small business. There are a lot of things you need to learn from your business. I used to have a
small business, so from that experience I still have a lot of lack of experience from that business.
Mr. Haliwin Borromeo, said that in business you need patience, time management, supports,
and how to make your employees be healthy. Their unique agenda on carrying out service that
is uniquely made for their customers was ensured by Mr. Haliwin Borromeo Jr. Since aside
from being Tours handler, they also give services on logistics. By carrying out safely their

purpose of ensuring safety and qu7ality handling of products, this aim of the company was held
for several years.
This is why I think that the interviewee’s insights and advice would really help us not
just on business itself but also on things like logistics and tours. So, like the shuttles on their
business they have many branches here in Manila and Laguna. As time passes by, our country
is following the so-called technological advancement. We are now one-by-one getting more
strategic ways of making our lives easier. We also come up with different useful ideas in the
field. So far, I gained a lot of ideas where I can innovate and start my business. It was all thanks
to our interviewee, Mr. Haliwin Borromeo Jr. As I was able to clear my mind, I also gained a
lot and may start planning as early as I can, now.
Finally, we are able to have a basic understanding of the logistics company as told by
the interviewee. Improvements in industrial distribution, dynamic challenges, and management
of the interplay between market operations and plans should all be utilized in a dynamic
corporate environment. With contemporary technology, management is becoming easier, and
accurate documentation is becoming much easier than previously.
E. John Carlo Soriano’s Individual Reflection Paper
To start, this project was particularly fun since it included a practical component that
demonstrated the significance of planning various options so that you can select the one that best
fits your situation. When group members are inefficient and do not share an equal workload,
group work can be incredibly challenging; however, my group functioned rather effectively with
minimal setbacks.
Our age were a huge discrepancy between me and the rest of the group. Because the rest
of the group was more experienced, it meant that they had past expertise with logistics. The
group's other four members were eager to offer any information they had, which helped me gain a
better understanding of how logistics function. Our group was successful, in my opinion, since
everyone worked together and demonstrated solid interpersonal skills. Our group excelled
because of two interpersonal skills: responsibility and courtesy. Someone taking responsibility
means claiming they're going to do something and then actually doing it. This worked effectively
in our group since we were always certain that everyone had finished their tasks for each meeting.
Manners were another important interpersonal skill in our group. Each member treated

each other with respect, which made it easier for us to go through the task because we knew the
other members would listen to any suggestions.
In conclusion, we are able to briefly understand the logistics company which are
interviewee explained thoroughly. In a dynamic corporate environment, improvements in
industrial distribution, dynamic issues, and management of the interplay between market
operations and plans should be used. Management is becoming easier with modern technology,
and proper documentation is becoming lot easier than before. Many benefits in this industry can
be linked to the application of technology in supply management.

Acknowledgment
First and foremost, the students would like to give their utmost gratitude to their
Leadership and Decision Making professor, Dr. Leonardo Cada F. Jr. for his continual support
amidst the entirety of the conduct of this requirement. It is without a doubt that through his
suggestions, collective effort in providing guiding and learning materials in relation to the field,
that the success of this presentation was achieved. Furthermore, the students would most
importantly like to send their kind regards and thanks to the interviewee, Mr. Haliwin
Borromeo Jr. who participated in this study. Never has it become more evident that his
response and input is the key centerpiece in developing the insights and learning that the
students gained from this requirement. Also, through this study, the proponents were thankful
for they have gained more knowledge with regards to the said professions the interviewee was
well-versed at. Last but definitely not the least, the proponents would like to thank the Lord
Almighty Himself, for giving the motivation needed in accomplishing the endeavor; that is, the
paper itself as well as the challenges that come along the way.
