Alexsandra: Good afternoon, Ms. Limpin. We are from FEU, and we are here to conduct an
interview about the leadership.
Ms. Limpin: Okay
Okay miss Mary, for my first question is.. What is the name of the business?
Ms. Limpin: Eric & grace pet supply, pwede ba akong sumagot ng tagalog?
Eric & Grace Pet Supply. Can I speak in Tagalog?
Juan: opo pwede naman po , so ano pong form of ownership ng negosyo
Yes, you can.
What is the form of ownership? is it a sole proprietorship? Or partnership?
Ms. Limpin: Mag-isa lang po
Yes, sole proprietorship
Juan: ano pong trabaho niyo sa negosyo?
What is your job position?
Ms. Limpin: Owner.
I am the owner of the business
Juan: So diyan po sa negosyo niyo ano pong vision niyo?
Okay. Another question is, what vision can you see in your business?
Ms. Limpin: syempre mas lumaki pa siya, mas lumago pa.
Definitely to expand this business. To further grow the business.
Let us start with our interview questions. My first question is, as an owner do you prefer to manage
the business alone, with the family, or with employees?
It’s either
I much prefer to just manage it alone, or it could be with family. It is fine both ways. But if it
comes other people, I have no interest in it.
trabaho?
My next question is, why do business minded or entrepreneurs prefer doing business?
First of all, I did not finish my education. That is why I ended up in this career. The second reason
is that my parents are business owners too. They own a small business that is located on the streets.
In this generation it just evolved, our business expanded. I came to this kind of business which is
a pet shop because I breed dogs. And again, I only finished high school. I have no choice and this
is my passion. This is what I want that’s why I did business.
How do you generate cash flow in your business and what elements do you need to be able to
scale your business?
uli kasi imported sila lahat eh.
I cater to all pet needs and I sell all fast-moving products even if the profit is small. It generates
more income, rather than those products that have more profit but are generally not a fast-moving
product. I also stock all products to ensure the demands.
Have you ever had the great amount of demand but low on stock?
Stocks are scarce due to great demand in our online platform. Pet supply has boomed this
pandemic, a lot of people had own pets these days. So as a result, our business provides all pet
needs.
May itatanong pa kayo?
Do you have any questions left?
industry?
Next question is, have you ever attempted other businesses before pursuing this one? If yes, do
you think that not everyone is meant to work in the business industry as an entrepreneur?
Ms. Limpin: Sa akin, sa ano ko, sa naging experience ko kasi hindi lang naman more than isa,
hindi lang naman more than two or more than three yung mga napasok ko na.
improvement kasi nga naging pabor nga ngayong pandemic yung ano namin, yung business namin
Based on my experience, I tried other business as well. For like two or three times already. In
some of my business, the revenue and improvements are slow compared to the pet supply. In this
time of pandemic, our business is in favor of this because a lot of people are becoming a pet owner
and the improvement in our business is faster.
As an entrepreneur, do you think not everyone is meant to work in the business industry?
Kailangan talaga
hands-on ka. Hanggat maaari ‘wag ipaubaya, tutukan talaga.
For me, it will all depend on the owner of the business. In any kind of business, you need to be
hands-on as an owner because if you’ll just let other people handle your business nothing will
change. You really need to become a hands-on business owner. As much as possible, don’t let
other people handle your business.
As an entrepreneur, do you believe in high risk equates to high reward? Why?
Ngayon kapag malaki
na yung puhunan mo at the same time malaki na rin yung pumapasok sa’yo kasi mas malaki yung
inilalabas mo.
Based on my observation, since I started from a small business if your capital is higher, then you’ll
be motivated to earn profit. When I was starting from my small business my capital is low so my
profit is low as well. And at the same time the improvement is slow. That’s why when your capital
is higher, your inflows is high also. It is important that your supplies are always complete.
Aaliyah: Hello po, ako naman po yung magtatanong, in tough times, particularly this pandemic
how does your business cope and survive?
Hello Ma’am, I’ll be the one asking questions. In tough times particularly during this pandemic,
how did your business cope and survive?
mabili kami tsaka mas naging kilala yung shop namin kasi nga maraming nagsara, kami bukas
kami.
Just like what I’ve said earlier, the pandemic is favorable in our business. It became favorable to
us because a lot of people are becoming a pet owner. When they are at home, they decided to
become a pet owner. They become a pet owner of any kind of pet. We gain more sales during this
pandemic and our business name has been known by others. Our shop has known more during this
pandemic. Because of the pandemic, many pet shops has closed while our pet shop stayed open
during the pandemic. It became favorable to us.
niyo?
You told us earlier that you open an e-commerce, how did you operate it? Are you the one
operating the e-commerce or did you hire someone to market your products and services?
Kaya ako nalang ulit, since
bago pa lang ulit.
At first, I am the one operating since my sibling taught me how it works. After couple of months, I
hired someone but it seems like the one I hire can’t operate well that’s why in the end I operate it
alone.
Aaliyah: Okay.
Alfred: As an entrepreneur po ba importante ba kapag mag sisimula ng Negosyo may degree o
okay lang basta madiskarte at resourceful?
As an entrepreneur, is it important to earn a degree before starting a business or is it okay as long
as you are resourceful?
For me based on my experience I didn’t have a degree, I think it is more appropriate to have a
degree, I think it is needed to have a degree because there are still a lot of things that I don’t know
because I lack education I only graduated in high school, for me I think that is what I need. I think
if I had a degree, my business would be much bigger because there are a lot things I need to do. I
needed to pay someone to do the work for example when I have to pay in BIR, I have to pay an
accountant monthly so that the accountant will take care of that stuff because I don’t know how to
do those things because I lack education. I think that is the only thing I lack.
How long have you been in your line of work? Have you tried getting insurance for you and your
employees?
Ms. Limpin: 5 years na ko dito sa pet shop na to pero ung iba kong naging business mga more than
10 years na kagaya nung toys. Kasi bago ako mag pet shop may toy store ako yun yung mga more
than 10 years na hangang ngayon nag ooperate padin. Ano pa yung isang question?
I’ve been doing my pet shop business for 5 years. However, I have been doing other businesses for
more than 10 years. For example, my toy store, I have been doing this business for more than 10
years and it’s still operating up to this date. What was the other question?
Alexsandra: Insurance
meron.
We only have SSS for our employees
Alfred: Sa FEU po kasi may core values such as Fortitude at Excellence.
In FEU we have core values such as Fortitude and Excellence. When hiring employees what core
values do you look for?
For me I want someone who can help me and not just for the sake of getting paid. I want someone
who really cares for me and my business. When looking for an employee, their concern towards
the job is my number one priority.
Alexsandra: That’s all the questions we’ve got for you and thank you for answering. Miss Limpin,
can we ask for photo documentation as a proof that we have done this interview?
Mary Grace: Yes, of course.
Alexsandra: Thank you miss!
Aaliyah: Thank you Ma’am and God Bless your business.
Juan: Thank you so much ma’am.
Alfred: Thank you Miss Limpin!

A. De Guzman, Alfred
The overall interview was very insightful for me and taught me many things in life and in
handling a business. Furthermore, my takeaway from the discussion is that I admire her
perseverance to work and become successful. Many believe that one cannot be successful unless
you’re a college graduate or a diploma holder in our country. But Ms. Limpin, the business owner,
showed us that the lack of a college diploma does not hinder one in achieving their goals and
continuing their passion.
Amidst all the challenges she faced, it was admirable that she continued to strive for her
business and future, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many businesses have gone
bankrupt and closed during the pandemic, and it is insightful that amidst the challenges she faced,
her words were, “I have no choice, and this is my passion. This is what I want; that’s why I did
business.” Before, I already knew that starting a business was challenging and very testing.
However, I learned that with a clear goal and passion in mind, every challenge becomes a lesson
and inspiration to look back.
I now learned that whatever you do, without passion, you can never succeed. Our passion
leads us to do lengths we believe we could never achieve. Without it, we could never enjoy and be
contented with the things we do. That’s why I think you should be passionate about it to achieve
success when starting a business.
B. Echiverri, Juan Angelo
Stephen Hawking famously said “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change”
One of the things Mary Grace (leader) said that got me intrigued is when she said that she
was happy that the pandemic happened. Because despite the hard times she was able to scale her
business more during the pandemic, she said that being able to adapt to the new normal helped her
a lot in her pet shop business. I witnessed first-hand how a leader thinks when things don’t go as
planned. I saw that from her perspective she saw problems as challenges, she never said that she
saw problems as challenges but by her answers, she said that she was able to step up and innovate
to be able to continue her business that is when I knew she was a great leader. Putting her products
and supplies online as we are changing to the digital world has helped scale her business even
more, at the same time she is selling products in person at her physical shop. I agree with her
decisions on putting her products online because by this technique she would attract more
customers and add more traffic through her business which is a win-win situation because in
today’s world it is necessary to put your business online too.
I realized that being able to adapt to change is very important in building a business and
scaling it, sometimes sticking to one plan is not a smart move I’ve always thought that sticking
and focusing on one plan was the key to building a successful business but I was wrong, it’s ok to
go different paths towards a goal because now I learned that there are a lot of ways that can lead
towards the same goal.
C. Lait, Aaliyah Maria E.
In the interview session with the chosen leader, I acquired knowledge and a deep understanding
of leadership and management. The leader had experience in running and owning a business. One
thing that struck me is that in building effective leadership. A leader must possess different skills
and abilities such as connection with her followers, honesty, communication, and good decisionmaking. Also, it does not necessarily need to have a degree to be an effective leader, but it is highly
recommended, for it is an advantage. The leader that we interviewed did not finish her studies, yet
she managed many businesses and has a successful team. She possesses a vision and focuses on
her goals. I realized that to be a good leader and have a victorious team, one should have ups and
downs in the way. To gain experiences and master the art of leadership. Additionally, a leader
should know his strengths and weakness and their team.
D. Rongcales, Alexsandra
Being a successful leader should obtain a healthy relationship with their team.
Leaders should have values, ethics, and characters. I believe that a leader should possess his
own values in order to influence the followers. Values, ethics, and characters should be obtained
by a leader for them to become a successful leader. A characteristic of a leader should be positive
so that the people around him/her will imitate his/her positive actions. A leader should have his/her
own ethics and principles with how he/she will build a relationship with his/her team. I consider
those traits as important traits for a leader because they have significance. It affects how a leader
treats their followers. Values are important in business because you are socializing with a lot of
people. We are tasked to interview a successful leader and I learned a lot from it. I have knowledge
that building a good relationship with your employees will have a positive outcome. I should apply
it to my actions and build a healthy relationship with my team and for us to grow. If I have a good
relationship with my team then I can earn their loyalty and they will become more productive. I
also realized that in business, I should be the one doing the necessary tasks and always choose to
become a hands-on leader when performing tasks and activities. Despite the responsibilities
assigned to me, I should always be the first person to check my business. I should not ask other
people and accomplish my tasks and responsibilities on my own. The interview had helped me
realize things and re-evaluate my knowledge. Based on the interview with Ms. Mary Grace,
changed my perspective in handling opportunities. I realized that even though the opportunity is
given at an unexpected time, I should still grab it and make it worthy. It changed my perspective
in some ways and helped me widen my thinking more. Also, if I failed in one type of business, I
should always consider trying other kinds of business. Innovation is significant in business because
the world is not constant and people seek changes. I must obtain innovations for my business and
always provide what is in demand which I learned from Ms. Limpin.
Having a talk with an experienced leader helped me look at things from different perspectives.
I should be a good leader and always aim for the betterment of my follower and the organization.
Despite the challenges, I should always stand up for them and be their great leader.
