Deniega Course Instructor |GE 3: THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD Give examples on the manifestations of globalization on the following aspects/fields: services, technology, investments, information. Throughout centuries and decades past, the very prominence of the word "Globalization" flags the needs of caution. The term was hardly used before even in academic community (Ereksen,2014). Not until the late 1980's but today, you can even see it on newspapers, magazines, online articles, books and journals. Although the term was new that doesn't mean that it was not already existent to its very sense. Many nations and countries in the world are already interconnected. This we know that it already happened before even the coinage of the term globalization. Sooner or later it could be argued that there's something in the new world. Additionally, the term was continuously developed by different brilliant minds. Thus, the word globalization has a long story before it was officially accepted as an idea or as a concept. Globalization is the process of integration of economic, political, and cultural systems across the globe, by which different societies, cultures and regional economies integrate through worldwide network. Put in simple term, it is the fast interdependence of various nations which shapes the world affairs on a global level, that increases worldwide exchanges of views, national and cultural resources. Generally, it has affected many nations in various ways; economically, politically and socially. In today’s world, the manifestations of globalization have benefits that cover many different areas and impact various fields: Services Services which in most economies are the single largest contributor to economic growth and employment. On the other hand, despite the importance of it to national prevailing situations, the impact of globalization on services is only recently receiving the attention of researchers and policy-makers. As globalization is a means for interconnectedness, one of its manifestation in this aspect is the coagulation of call center agents who provide a wide-range subordinate around the globe. Technology Globalization enhances technological development. It allows countries to gain easier access to foreign knowledge. Moreover, it enhances international competition, which includes as a result of the rise of emerging market firms and this strengthens firms' incentives to innovate and adopt foreign technologies. A great example of this is the information technology which over the years became more efficient and handier compared to what we have in the past wherein desktop computers are limited to a fairly amount of technologically advanced people and when the mobile telephones are still large in bulky and is only carried by a small number of users. Also, |GE 3: THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD improvement to various hardware, software, and telecommunication allowed people to be able to access information and economic potential which pave a way for easier business transactions, communication and seeking job opportunities. Investments Globalization improves International Investments. Globalization drives connected economies to continue to invest in each other to protect their economic health and acquire new profits. International investments have increased as a direct result of globalization and continue to do so. Furthermore, it empowers the innovation of bank accounts wherein we can conveniently transact our money and ensure its safety. Information It points out that the growth of digital information draws and contributes to globalization (Cate, 1998) Information, particularly electronic information, is ubiquitous - it respects no boundaries. The development of technology has greatly increased the people’s ability to access information by the use of digital technology. Thus, globalization in technology has its big contribution in terms of information, spreading the wide range of communication and telecommunication. The emergence of broadcast media made it easy to gain new source of information as it continuously updates worldwide events via live or in respective online outlets. In this context, globalization became the center of the growing ease of information flow across borders or perhaps without regard to borders. Moreover, information and communication today are omnipresent as it can be accessed in various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. While we enjoy all the benefits we gain from the manifestations of globalization in different fields, there is an underlying negativity imposed that we can barely notice. We all know that globalization effectuate good manifestation but not all times. There are certain instances where globalization becomes our worst enemy. We can't gainsay that there is existential vile manifestation of globalization. To mention, it brings casualization or contractualization, downsizing and retrenchment to different workers. Furthermore, employees also experience cheap labor, low wage, and even union repression. These changes show only that globalization brings bad manifestation not just good. Moreover, modernization really brought good things in our lives but on the other side, we don't recognize that nature is the number one deal that's been hardly affected by it. We almost brought total destruction to it. We deliver devastation to nature at hand, such as endless cutting of trees, continuously polluting the seas, the oceans and the air we breathe in. We humans also hunt these animals to their last kin. We can't deny these facts, it is happening. We can strive to be the best and to be successful and modernized but, we should always think that true modernization doesn't mean that certain things should be sacrificed. |GE 3: THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD It is evident that globalization had a great impact to the economies in various nations. It also heavily influenced the services and empowered investments. And, the technological and information flow advancement created a path in an easier gathering of information and let individuals work efficiently and effectively. Although globalization allowed us to prosper, still, true modernization comes with improvements with no sacrifices. |GE 3: THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD
