SWEDEN
THE PHYSICAL FEATURES
Sweden has three physical regions. The first is Norrland, located in
the north, and it contains the physical features of plateaus and
mountains. The western side of the plateau is bordered by the Kjolen
mountain range. The highest point is Kebnekaise at 6,900 feet tall.
The eastern end of the plateau is carved into river valleys.
The second region is the southwest side of the country called
Svealand. The physical features in Svealand includes the western
coast, lakes, eskers and moraines. The western coast lies along the
Baltic Sea. The most dominant physical features are eskers,
moraines and lake beds, all of which have been carved from the land
by glaciers. The glaciers carved out the lake beds and deposited the
gravel and soil into ridges called eskers and moraines.
The third region is Gotaland and lies in the southeast part of the
country. The physical features of this region are rocky upland areas
and fertile plains. Sweden's east coast has low, fertile plains, which
rise to rocky, more rugged areas.
THE CLIMATE
Most people think of winter when they hear of Sweden. But because
of the warm Gulf Stream, the climate here can be much milder than
you might expect. Spring, summer, fall and winter each have their
own unique personalities. Spring runs from March/April to May,
summer
from
June
to
August,
fall
from
September
to
October/November
and
winter
from
November/December
to
March/February.
In a land as varied as Sweden, these seasons can be quite different
depending on where you live. For simplicity’s sake, the country can
be
divided
into
three
major
regions: Götaland in
the
south, Svealand in the middle and Norrland in the north.
In Götaland, where you’ll find the cities Gothenburg and Malmö,
winters are shorter and milder, while daytime summer temperatures
normally range from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. The air is relatively
humid here, making warm days feel warmer and cold days colder.
However, even in winter months, snow is rare near any southern
coast.
Stretching from Stockholm in the east to southern Norway in the
west, Svealand has a climate that is normally a few degrees cooler
than that of Götaland. Average temperatures are just below zero in
January, and snowfall is more common – especially in the northwest,
where a number of popular ski resorts are located.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
Since you have booked your hotel room you should probably look
around sweden a bit here’s some places that attract most tourists in
Sweden.
With its rich history and varied landscapes, Sweden is a traveler's
paradise. If you love the outdoors, it's certainly hard to beat. The air
and water are crystal clean, and there are thousands of acres of
unspoiled forests and majestic lakes to explore, not to mention vast
archipelagos along its coasts. The roads and public transport are
excellent, the citizens are invariably friendly and helpful, and in
recent years Swedish cuisine has undergone what can only be
described as a revolution, and one thing is certain: you'll never be
bored. Sweden's tourist attractions range from opulent palaces and
ancient towns to vast Arctic landscapes and the famed Ice Hotel.
There are so many things to do that you'll want to allow plenty of
time to enjoy all its outdoor adventures and historic treasures.
VISBY, GOTLAND
Steeped in medieval history and brimming with ruined churches, the
rose-entwined, walled town of Visby, on the island of Gotland, is a
huge draw for visitors from around the world. Quaint cobblestone
streets snake about the town, and when exploring, it's all too easy
to lose your sense of being in the modern world. Adorned with
stepped gables, many medieval trading houses remain, as well as
some timber buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Clearly,
Visby's reputation as 'the pearl of the Baltic' and UNESCO World
Heritage Site status are both well deserved. A self-guided or guided
tour of the magnificent walls, which date back some 700 years, is a
must. Built into the structure are some 44 defensive towers, and the
walls still bear the scars of attack in the form of two breaches. Direct
flights are available from Stockholm and several other Swedish cities
as well as excellent ferry links.
OAXEN KROG & SLIP: AN AIRY AND STYLISH RESTAURANT IN
DJURGÅRDEN
There are many attractions in the island of Djurgården but Oaxen
Krog -- a fine dining restaurant with two Michelin stars -- and its
sister restaurant Slip are good enough reasons to visit this small
island which is within easy walking distance from central Stockholm.
Oaxen, located at an old shipyard, is divided into two restaurants:
“Krog” where the focus is on gastronomic sophistication and the
adjacent “Slip” with a more laid-back atmosphere.
Slip is where you sit back and hang out with family and friends. Airy
and bright with white walls, large windows and high ceilings from
which boats are hanging, it’s obvious why you’ll often spot big groups
of beautiful Swedish families and friends gathering for Sunday
brunch.
Unfussy but beautifully presented
characteristic of the cuisine.
