Objective: At the end of this activity, students should be able to:
1. Measure accurately the amount of powdered drug (furosemide) required.
2. Demonstrate the proper techniques of preparing a paper tab reconstitution of oral drug.
Materials:
Furosemide 40 mg tab
Medicine box
Analytical Balance
Waxed paper
Scissors
Spatula
Mortar and pestle
Calculator
Ruler
Procedures:
1. Evaluate the Prescription below:
2. Base on your interpretation of the prescription, calculate the following:
a. Single dose of the drug
b. Dose per day
c. Total amount of the drug for the entire regimen
d. Total number of doses for the entire regimen
e. Total number of tablets required to supply the needed amount of the drug of the entire duration of
therapy.

Triturate tablets into desired powder form using mortar and pestle.
In a clean concrete tile, pour over the triturated powders and start to make a cake.
Using a spatula, shape the powder into cake form and make sure to flatten surface until clean finish.
Divide the cake powder into the desired portion. Using a ruler, measure each portion equally by making a
line of thin markings.
5. Using a thin spatula or cutter blade, slowly the portions of the powder and wrap.
6. Refer on the video presentation 8:03 minutes for the procedure of Block and Divide Method.
