COLLEGE TIPS FOR FRESHMAN
AND SOPHOMORE YEARS
Sophomore Year
EVERY YEAR COUNTS.
EVERY CHOICE MATTERS.
Freshman Year
 GET ORGANIZED
Create a college and career
folder. Save information on
the college and careers that
you are interested in.
 JOIN A CLUB
Explore extra-curricular
activities at your school or
community. It’s a great way to
learn about your career interest
and helps to build a college
resume.
 JOB SHADOW
Experiencing a job firsthand
is the BEST way to find out
what you like and dislike
about a career. Job
shadowing helps you build
connections for your future.
 TAKE A CAREER ASSESSMENT
This will help to narrow your
career choices and show you
which career areas would work
best for you.
 PLAN FOR THE ACT
Talk to your counselor about
the ACT. It is a very
important test that you need
to study for. A good ACT
score can lead to BIG
scholarship money for
college!
 MAKE GOOD GRADES
It’s very important to make good
grades starting NOW! Colleges
look at your 9th- 12th grade GPA.
Good grades can provide
scholarship money for college.
Study hard and do your
homework!
 GET TO KNOW YOUR CAREER
COACH
Your Career Coach is here for
your success.
 TALK TO YOUR CAREER
COACH
Got questions? Don’t know
where to start? Your career
coach is here to help you
achieve your college and
career goals!
