A very good morning to hororable judges, teachers and friends. Today I am going to tell a story entitled “The Lazy
Monkey”.
One day, the lion king was shot dead by a hunter. All the animals of the jungle gathered. They wanted to choose a new
king to be their leader.
The animals of the jungle discussed among themselves as to who would be a suitable king. They asked the rhinoceros
to be the king. However, the rhinoceros did not want to be king. He felt that he was not suitable to be king.
“Perhaps the elephant could be king, after all he is big and strong,” said the other animals. “I am not strong, also I
move slowly,” said the elephant.
All the other animals who had been asked to be king also gave excuses.
“To be a leader, the animal must have leadership qualities. The king must protect the jungle from being attacked,” said
the monkey.
“Let the humans be the king, after all a human killed the lion,” said the monkey.
“I disagree,” said the squirrel. “Everyone, please look at me. Don’t I look like a human?” asked the monkey.
Finally, the animals of the jungle decided to appoint the monkey as their new king. The monkey felt happy.
However, the monkey did not perform his duties. He would only relax and eat.
The animals of the jungle were not happy with the monkey’s behavior. He was just taking advantage of the other
animals.
The wolf thought of way to teach the monkey a lesson. Finally, he had an idea.
The wolf told the monkey he found a place where there were a lot of delicious food. He brought the monkey to the
place.
When they reached the place, the monkey headed towards the food. Suddenly, he fell into a deep hole. It was a
hunter’s trap.
The animals of the jungle agreed with what the wolf had done. None of the animals wanted to help the monkey.
A hunter came and took the monkey home.
The monkey realized his mistake. He was no longer free.
The monkey was tied to a tree. He felt sad. This was his punishment.
Meanwhile, the wolf was chosen to be king. He ruled the other animals fairly. All the animals of the jungle lived happily
and peacefully.
This story tells us that we shouldn’t be lazy on taking up responsibility, as the saying goes “the great power comes the
great responsibility”.
