The Red Panda Laila Coleman Population You Ask? ❖ Well first nothing is being done to increase the red pandas, absolutely depressing huh? Yeah I know ❖ There really isn't any Techniques used to count the population of the red panda but there are only 10,000 of them Human Impact?? Why are they endangered?? ❏ Red pandas are endangered because their primary loss and degradation habitat loss is primarily attributed to logging, grazing livestock, demand for firewood, human encroachment and farming. ❏ Human impact: Red pandas are often killed when they get caught in traps meant for other animals such as wild pigs and deer ❏ Human can help save red pandas if they stop with the forest fires and the traps made for other animals Where do they live? ❖ Red pandas live in the Eastern Himalayas in places like China, Nepal, and Bhutan. But they spend most of their time in trees. ❖ They live in high-altitude, temperate forests with bamboo understories in the china and other high mountains around the area What the eat? How/what/or who would the effect? ❏ Red pandas leaves occasionally they would eat fruit, insects, bird eggs and small lizards, too. ❏ But their favorite type of leaves are bamboo leaves they mostly eat shoots, acorns, and flowers ❏ Their extinction would affect the survival of the predators that rely on them for their survival ❏ Red pandas are omnivore What Do They Do? ❖ Red Panda are nocturnal they also communicate with whistles and squeaks. ❖ red pandas aren't awake much during the day they are mostly active at dawn when the sun rises. They spend much of their life in trees, climbing from branch to branch in search of food. Their Behavior? ❏ Mutualism: The red panda has a good relationship with raccoon. ❏ Competition:some of the red pandas “competition”is with snow leopards, martens, and humans. ❏ Predation: red pandas has a simple diets which consist of fruit, insects, bird eggs and small lizards
