TOURISM IN VIETNAM 1. INTRODUCTION - Definition + the business of providing services such as transport, places to stay, or entertainment for people who are on holiday ( Cambridge Dictionary) + Tourism is a collection of activities, services and industries which deliver a travel experience comprising transportation, accommodation, eating and drinking establishment, retail shops, entertainment businesses and other hospitality services provided for individuals or groups traveling away from home ( World Tourism Organization specialized agency of the United Nations UNWTO) - Product Categories Accommodation, i.e. hotels, bed & breakfasts, guest houses, selfcatering/serviced apartments, camping, caravanning and home stay Hospitality, i.e. food and beverage serving services, e.g. pubs, restaurants, cafes, private dining for groups/conferences Transport services, e.g. rail, road, water, air networks and rental Guided tours and tourist guides Travel agencies and other reservation services, including tour operators and destination management companies (see travel trade section) Cultural services, e.g. museums, attractions Sports and recreational activities Retail 2. BODY A, Status The World Tourism and Travel Organization (WTTC) shows that Vietnam's total tourism and travel industry contribution to GDP is 18.4 billion USD, accounting for 9.1% of GDP.Statistics Acorrding to General Statistics Office, international visitors to Viet Nam in June estimated 1,185,445 arrivals, up 0.2% over the same period last year. Total international arrivals in 6 months reached 8,480,993 arrivals, increasing 7.5% over the same period last year. In this period, the number of domestic trippers estimated 45.5 million. Total tourism receipt reached VND 338,200 billion, representing an increase of 8.4% over the same period of 2018.
