Driver Safety Prepared for Tony Parker, Commissioner <Date> Tennessee Department of Correction | <DATE> Agenda • Purpose • End State • Background • Methodology • Issues / Concerns • Timeline • Discussion 2 Purpose • Provide training for department employees to ensure driver safety. 3 End State • Lower incidents related to wrecks, call-in reports, speeding tickets and hit and runs that are related to driving state vehicles. 4 Background • In 2018 there were 899 accidents reported in state government • 133 of those accidents were TDOC • In 2019 there have already been 939 accidents reported in state government • 119 of those accidents were TDOC 5 Background • There has been an increase of calls related to drivers • Some accidents that have been reported could have been avoided 6 Methodology • Provide a driver safety course, beginning with high priority areas that will include: • How to avoid accidents • How to report accidents • New laws and rules driving state vehicles • Classes will be tracked in Edison that the employee will have to enroll in • Classes will eventually be added in LMS 7 Methodology • Who currently drives state cars • Perimeter patrol • PPO officers • Blue Car lot • Enterprise rentals • ELT/Wardens/DDs, etc. 8 Issues/Concerns 9 Timeline • Train all TDOC employees in an one-hour course that will be provided by General Services and Department of Safety • Jan 2020 • High priority areas • Train prisons and community supervision offices as scheduled 10 Discussion 11
