Negative Management?
WHAT MANAGERS WANT
Managers want bad attitudes to disappear. Negativity and bad attitudes don't just
disappear. If not addressed, negative attitudes in the workplace can lead to major
productivity problems.
Root Cause of Negativity
• Talking to employees can help you identify the root causes of negativity and rumblings in your company. It is important to
identify which employee groups are suffering from the negativity, and what the root causes of their unhappy state.
• Why is it so important?
• Management training is crucial. Negativity can easily surface when there are problems, pressures or changes at work. The
rumour mill runs rampant often. It is up to management to address it. Many managers lack the skills or communication
techniques needed to deal effectively with negative employee behaviour.
• Managers and supervisors must also be mindful of how they express their emotions to employees. Staff can react
negatively to anger or frustration in moments of anger. Employees will observe and copy the manager's reactions to both
good and poor events. Managers can learn how to communicate and interact in difficult situations. This will help them
control negative employee reactions and increase their leadership skills.

be done. Organizations that struggle with negative workplace mood are not the only ones
who can benefit from reducing it. Every business can benefit from a more positive working
