NATURAL ABILITIES Self-leadership is similar in nature to mature adulthood. Research in developmental psychology has shown that mature adulthood seems rare. Leadership requires self-awareness and self-honesty. Self-criticism is a common way to push ourselves forward; it is not self-leadership. For individual and organizational success, self-leadership is a critical success factor. Self-leadership is a natural ability of all human beings. However, not all self leaders are capable of leading others ( Manz 1983 ). This is the bad news.
