Statement of Purpose During my time as a student in Public Health Faculty in Universitas Indonesia (UI), I learned how the role of effective leadership should be maximized in every branch of healthcare as it provides better health outcomes, especially for developing countries. One of the classes I was passionate about was ‘Leadership for the Health Development’, which taught the principles and practical skills in creating system instead of temporary solutions to answer public health issues. Since then, I have been wanted to work as a program director in a healthcare institution. To accomplish that, after I graduated, I strove to upgrade my theoretical comprehension and practical skills through my work experience. Having worked in different institutions, I learned that evidence-based science is rarely implemented and integrated into policies or actionable plans in Indonesia. When I worked in Globalindo Clinic, I found that the data collected from the patients were never further analysed to improve the clinic’s services and outputs. Moreover, after 8 months of work in Covid-19 Task Force, I observe that many of the work programs were made in rush and had no evidence-base science background to support them. Lack of coordination among government organizations and inconsistent decisions also aggravated the situation that per 17 May of 2021, Indonesia has the highest number of cases and deaths in Southeast Asian Region. I believe in the future, health emergency situations will always arise, thus, I intend to pursue a higher degree to attain in-depth knowledge and practical skills in health leadership. Hence, I will be prepared to contribute more when the next pandemic hits Indonesia. For that reason, I choose to enroll in MPH at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) as QUT offer courses that focus on shaping health leader to understand how to implement evidence-based science into actionable policies and actions. QUT with its 30 years of renowned extensive research with realworld impact and opportunity for personal development to build up real-world experiences, would be a suitable medium for succeeding in my MSc degree. Additionally, I am utterly interested to learn ‘Leadership in Disaster Management’ and ‘Health Planning and Evaluation’, which are pertinent to the goals that I want to accomplish. Once I complete my master study, I intend to continue working in Covid-19 Task Force or Indonesia National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB). By completing the purposed studies, I will be able to provide effective planning in health programs and support the integrated capital and workforce. Moreover, combining the knowledge and skills from courses such as ‘Implementation Science-Theory and Application in Healthcare’, ‘Health Planning and Evaluation’, and ‘Health Economics: Application and Policy’ will enable me to construct effective programs reliant on research and science, and an advanced budget plan to support them.
