Instructions
A business plan is a detailed plan for a proposed program or service, including information to be used to assess the financial feasibility
of the initiative. A good business plan guides you through each stage of starting and managing your business. You’ll use your business
plan as a roadmap for how to structure, run, and grow your new business. It’s a way to think through the key elements of your
business. Business plans can also help you get funding or bring on new business partners.
The US Small Business Administration (SBA) (https://www.sba.gov/ (Links to an external site.)) provides support resources and
information for building an initial business plan. The first step in planning a new program is to understand the organization’s mission,
vision and goals and how the proposed plan aligns to those elements.
The purpose of this assignment is to provide advanced practice nursing students an opportunity to take the first step in conceptualizing
a Business Plan for a healthcare entity. Create a brief summary of each of the components of a Business Plan as outlined below and
post on an initial Discussion Board post. The post should be no more than 1-1.5 pages of single-spaced text. Use descriptive headings
for each section (do not number). The assignment is worth 10 points, which constitutes 10% of the grade for this course. The initial
post is due 20 April and two responses to peer posts are due 24 April by 11:59 pm.

Introduction to the hypothetical healthcare business envisioned (a service; not products)
Superior Healthcare Clinic

NGR6733: Organizational and Systems Leadership & Quality Improvement
For Advanced Practice Nursing
The objective of Superior Healthcare Clinic is to provide excellent healthcare to local residents that can be examined, diagnosed, and
healed. The clinic will be capable of on-site care of minor illness and injury for adults and children. Doctors will recommend a plan
for each patient to either go to an emergency room at the hospital or to be treated at the clinic. Our family medicine doctors and nurse
practitioners will provide the community with superior medical care.
List of services provided:
Superior Healthcare Clinic is capable of Primary Care as well as Diagnostics & Imaging. Services include diagnosing sore throats,
upset stomachs, allergies, annual physicals, phlebotomy for laboratory services, chronic care management, prescribing
pharmaceuticals, wellness exams, preventive visits, electrocardiogram (EKG), pulmonary function testing (lung testing), sutures,
cryotherapy, biopsies, ultrasound, X-Ray, and Women’s Health (Preventive Exams).
Evidence of need
“The overall employment of nurse practitioners in Florida is projected to grow 45% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than average for
all occupations. The biggest demand for NP’s is in Family Care who will require nurses on their staff as well. Oncology nurse
practitioners will be in high demand as well.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Feb 18, 2021).
I have chosen to open Superior Healthcare Clinic in Palm Coast, Florida. Palm Coast is one of the fastest growing cities in Florida
which will require additional clinics to support this community. The evidence of need for Superior Healthcare Clinic is based on the
fact that Palm Coast’s population is expected to double by the year 2035 and all major economic trends point to a bright future for
Palm Coast. Presently there are not enough clinics and with the growing population, there is a great need for this new clinic.
Projections for practice income and expenses (estimate)
Expenses are expected to range anywhere from $750,000 to $1 million for the cost of the 3000 sq. ft. facility space, furniture, fixtures,
clinic equipment, and software. Operational expenses will include payroll and taxes, electronic medical records/EMR software,
radiology and lab fees, property, liability, and malpractice insurance, professional fees such as CPA, attorney, and business consultant
fees, maintenance and cleaning fees.
Income: Superior Healthcare Clinic will have 4 ARNP’s on staff, who will see 18 patients each during the 10-hour workday, 5 days a
week at $100 on average per patient: 18 x $100 x 5 x 52 weeks =$468,000 per ARNP which comes out to approximately
$1,872,000 annually.
Principle individuals starting the business
Victoria Pitenis will be the principle individual starting this business.
Organizational plan:
1.Develop strategic plan. Mission, vision, and values of Superior Healthcare Clinic. SHC’s main responsibility is to heal the sick as
efficiently as possible. To determine if the problem can be solved within the clinic or to advise the patient to seek treatment at the hospital.
All patients are welcomed and treated fairly. SWOT analysis: the strength of the organization the extensive experience of the ANRP’s. The
dedication and professionalism with which they handle all patients. The weaknesses of the organization are in promotion and marketing,

and a reliance on insurance reimbursement limitations. The opportunity is to expand these clinics to other neighborhoods. The biggest
threat is from major hospitals who are purchasing these entrepreneurial companies and taking market share.
2. Translate the strategic plan into tactical steps: In order for SHC to be successful and profitable, it is important that all ARNP’s meet
a target goal of seeing 18-23 patients per day on average, 7 days per week.
Plan daily operations: Since SHC operation is open 7 days per week, they will have a rotation of ARNP’s throughout the week. Once
per month, each practitioner must work the weekends.
Monitor progress and adjust plans: Reports will be generated from the medical software purchased on a monthly basis and distrusted
to the principles indicating the status of SHC financial profitability or loss.
3.Plan for managing day-to-day operations
There will be a rotation of workdays scheduled so that the work is distributed evenly among the 4 ARNP’s.
Investment needs
Victoria Pitenis will get funding from an SBA loan, as well as her own personal savings. Approximately $1,000,000 will be needed to
open this clinic, of which $200,000 will come from Victoria’s personal savings, and the remainder $800,000 from an SBA loan.
Potential problems and critical risks
The most pressing issue, will there be enough patients walking through the door to support the organization? Competition from
Walgreens, CVS walk-in clinics, and hospitals.
Summary
Superior Healthcare Clinic will provide excellent healthcare to the community of Palm Coast, Florida. As part of our budget, we have
engaged an advertising agency to promote the business on social media platforms that will include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, as
well as local newspaper advertising. In addition, SHC will have a prominent and well-lit marquis signage in front of the building, and
a Grand Opening featuring the mayor of Palm Coast will welcome our first patients. SCH will accept scores of healthcare insurance
plans, and SCH will be listed under their network providers. Initially, the practice will consist of 4 ARNP’s, 2 receptionists, 3 CNA’s.
Billing will be outsourced. SHC will adhere to all state and federal policies and requirements, licenses and procedures mandated by
state and local governments. As in any business, it will take time to develop a reputation and to slowly increase the awareness of the
clinic. The first month of operation will definitely be a loss, but we anticipate by the sixth month to be a sustainable and profitable
organization. The losses have been budgeted in our business plan. Expenses will be covered by the reimbursements by the insurance
companies, which normally take up to 3 months to recover. As stated above, we feel that the biggest threat is competition from
hospitals buying and opening up their own urgent care centers, as well as Walgreens and CVS having walk-in clinics in their stores.
