10 Automotive Servicing Quarter 2 - Week 1 Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) Components of the Lighting System Writer: JUN VERGEL G. YAMBA AGAY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL RTR District Agusan del Norte 1 Introduction This weekly learning activity sheet contains information and suggested learning activities on testing and repairing electrical system. It includes instructions and procedure on how to use hand tools and electrical instruments in accordance to manual instructions and specification. The scope of this learning activity sheet permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using. This learning activity sheet contains one learning outcome: Learning Objective 1 – Explain Automotive Lighting System and its functions (TLE_IAAS9-12WS-Ie-h-2) After going through this learning activity sheet, you are expected to: 1. determine the importance of lighting system; and 2. identify the different components of the lighting system. A. dashboard B. dome light C. instrument light D. trunk light Lesson Components of the Lighting System The lighting system of a motor vehicle consists of lighting and signaling devices mounted or integrated to the front, rear, sides, and in some cases the top of a motor vehicle. This lights the roadway for the driver and increases the visibility of the vehicle, allowing other drivers and pedestrians to see a vehicle's presence, position, size, direction of travel, and the driver's intentions regarding direction and speed of travel. Emergency vehicles usually carry distinctive lighting equipment to warn drivers and indicate priority of movement in traffic. The vehicles use electric lighting to provide the illumination or light needed to safely operate the vehicle especially night time, the various lights provide vision and information to the driver to other drivers and pedestrians. The automotive lighting system consists of the components. A wire, switches, relays that operate the interior and exterior lights on car. 3 Fig. 1 Schematic wiring diagram of automotive lighting system Exterior Lights These lights illuminate the roadway for the driver and increase the visibility of the vehicle in any position, allowing other drivers and pedestrians to see the vehicle's presence, position, size, direction of travel, and the driver's intentions regarding direction and speed. Typically include the headlights, signal lights, stoplights, parking lights, back up lights and side marker lights. Interior Lights These lights provide illumination for the driver and passengers to enter and exit the vehicle; they illuminate certain control surfaces; and they add style and warmth to vehicle interiors. Normally include the dome light, instrument light, in the dash board, trunk light. 4 Fig. 2 Components of lighting system Learning Activities Activity 1. Find Me in the Box!
