Global Issue and Outline:
Global Issue: Beyonce uses metaphors while Yoshimoto utilizes tone and allegory to
present the harrowing effects the loss of a significant person has on the welfare of a
woman, more distinctly, the effects this has on other varying aspects in a womans
life in “Kitchen” and “Lemonade”.
The effects the loss of a significant person has on the representation of a womans
emotions-specfically- the effects this has on the social/cultural acceptance of
these emotions
❖ Yoshimoto: Lives in Japan/ was 29 years old when “kitchen” was written/ book
was written in the ’70s/ her position as a woman and orphan in Japanese
society
❖ Beyonce: Lives in America and is from Texas/ is 39 years old/ song was
written in the 21st century/ has only been in one marriage
❖ Diction/asyndenton-leaves out conjunctions to emphszie her
disorderly/emtional thoughts/”I was determined to keep that dirigible,so far off
in the sky, in sight no matter what”. Soliloqy/””Please let me live”/”Am i losing
my mind?”
❖ Metaphor/[Beyonce] “True love brought salvation back into me”/” Your the

❖ Allegory/[Beyonce] “I’ve seen your scars and kissed your crime”/she has seen
the parts of him he has always tried to keep hidden from the rest of the
world, similar to how many partners of those who have committed
infidelity have seen and heard intimate and secretive information about
their significant other/[Kitchen]”
❖ Soliloquy/[Beyonce] ”Give you some time to prove that I can trust you
again”/she is voicing to both herself and him that she is unable to trust him
at the moment, however, with time, she might be able to feel vulnerable
with him again/”so many people that I know, they just tryna touch
ya”/everyone she knows only wants physical attention but she wants more
than that, an emotional bond that he will not find with anyone but

❖ Allusion/[Beyonce]So many people that I know, they just tryna touch ya, Kiss
up, and rub up, and feel up”/alluding to how the general population, when
entering relationships, tend to be more focused and driven by the physical
aspects of the other person/ alluding to materialism.[Kitchen]
❖ Conclusion: The outcome of losing a person(s) who held a consequential
position in Mikages life and how self-reconstruction can take a considerable
amount of time. How relationships with others can either harm or help the
process of self-rehabilitation
