A chemical element is a pure chemical substance consisting of one type of atom distinguished by its atomic number. Each chemical element is assigned a specific atomic number. Elements are divided into metals, metalloids and non-metals. Chemical compound – When two or more distinct elements are chemically combined, with the atoms held together by chemical bonds, the result is termed a chemical compound. Atomic Number – of an element is equal to the number of protons that defines the element. Atomic number is also number of protons in its nucleus.
