Lesson Planning Template LESSON CONTEXT Lesson Topic Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) Intended Lesson Audience Third-year Computer Science/Engineering Students Lesson Length 30 min Lesson Format (face-to-face, blended, or online) Online (synchronously); will be delivered through Teams Teaching Support and Resources Available to You for the Lesson Lesson slides, links to useful websites for examples and more reading Faculty / Department / Organization Parameters and Expectations for the Lesson No background needed for this lesson. The requirements for the course are coding, Data structure, and statistics Lesson Objectives Giving an overall description to Artificial Intelligence LESSON PLAN Lesson Title Definition, History and applications of Artificial Intelligence Bridge-in / Introduction Page 1 of 3 All of us are using AI in our everyday life. AI techniques such as voice recognition and natural language processing are used by Siri, Hey-google or Alexa. Google map is using AI techniques to find the shortest path for us. We could not ignore the usage of AI in our life and work. Intended Learning Outcome(s) By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to: 1. Define Artificial Intelligence and its difference to (human) intelligence 2. Describe the application of Artificial Intelligence in the real world Pre-Assessment that is aligned with the lesson intended learning outcome(s) As the first and second topic below, the level of understanding of AI needs to be determined. Topics and Content Items (e.g., readings, videos), with an estimated time commitment noted for each item. Ensure these are aligned with the lesson intended learning outcomes. TOPIC: Definition of human intelligence Content Item [estimated time commitment]: Asking students to discuss their understanding of human intelligence in the groups of three [5 min] Providing feedback to the outcomes of the groups by random pick up two groups to provide the result of their discussion [5 min] TOPIC: Definition of AI Content Item [estimated time commitment]: Asking Students to discuss on what is their expectation of an AI system and consequently how they define the AI [5 min] Providing feedback to the outcomes of the groups by random pick up two groups to provide the result of their discussion [5 min] Providing official definition and also some examples of AI systems [5 min] TOPIC: Applications of AI Content Item [estimated time commitment]: Introducing some area that are using AI (e.g., Medical image processing, natural language processing, Data mining) [5 min] Participatory Learning Activity / Activities (e.g., reflection, worksheet, discussion forum post). Ensure these are aligned with the lesson intended learning outcome(s). The second topic above will involve students to discuss on the definition and usage of AI. Post-Assessment that is aligned with the lesson intended learning outcome(s) Page 2 of 3 Asking students to name one job that they think will be given to an AI in recent future. Summary Summarize to what similarity we aim to design an AI related to human intelligence.
