Proofs of the Resurrection
I Corinthians 15:1-9
1. Jesus had foretold His experience prior to the Transfiguration.
Luk 9:21 And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell
no man that thing;
Luk 9:22 Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be
rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and
be raised the third day.
 And Other References He made:
a. Two separate witnesses testify in two very different ways to
Jesus' statement during his lifetime that if his enemies destroyed the
temple (of his body), he would build it again in three days (John 2:19;
Mark 14:58; cf. Matthew 26:61).
b. He also spoke allusively of the "sign of Jonah" - three days in the
heart of the earth (Matthew 12:39; Matthew 16:4).
c. And he hinted at it again in Matthew 21:42 - "The very stone
which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner."
d. On top of his own witness to the coming resurrection, his
accusers said that this was part of Jesus' claim: "Sir, we remember
how that impostor said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days I
will rise'" (Matthew 27:63).
2. Peter boldly preached the Resurrection as truth on the Day of
Pentecost.
Act 2:22-33
Act 2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and
foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have
crucified and slain:
Act 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of
death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Acts 17:1-7 (Paul and Silas 3 Sabbath days at a Synagogue in
Thessalonica)
Act 17:2 ....reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Act 17:3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have
suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I
preach unto you, is Christ.
Act 17:6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and
certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have
turned the world upside down are come hither also;
Act 17:7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the
decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
3. The greatest outline of the eye-witness proofs of the
resurrection came from the greatest enemy of the Church!
a. Those who trusted the Prophets would have to trust their
prophecies concerning the resurrection:
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the
third day according to the scriptures:
b. Those who saw the changed lives and zealous committment of
the Apostles would have to admit something is true:
1Co 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
c. Those who demand wider eye-witness proof had it available all
along:
1Co 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred
brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this
present, but some are fallen asleep
d. His own family, younger half-brother James for instance, could
easily tell if it were an imposter:.
1Co 15:7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the
apostles.
e. The great persecutor of the Church became the great evangelist
for Christ:
1Co 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born
out of due time.
1Co 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet
to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of
God.
4. Further Evidence Proving the Resurrection as Historical Fact
a. The Collusion of the Chief Priest
Mat 28:11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the
watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all
the things that were done.
Mat 28:12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and
had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
Mat 28:13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and
stole him away while we slept.
Mat 28:14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will
persuade him, and secure you.
Mat 28:15 So they took the money, and did as they were
taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews
until this day.
b. The Arrest and Trial of the Apostles in Jerusalem (Acts 5:17-42)
Act 2:23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and
foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands
have crucified and slain:
Act 2:24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of
death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of
it.
