1. The Spanish-American war came to be when Cuba was
fighting for independence. America sympathized with
Cuba and joined their cause.
2. Additionally, businesses supported the war to protect
their interests in the region.
3. Yellow journalism helped to further sensationalize the
war which provided more support from the public.
4. Many volunteers of the war suffered illness because the
government was unprepared to feed so many soldiers.
5. The war resulted in independence for Cuba and
annexation of the Philippines for $20 million.
