Sciences for the IB MYP 1: by Concept Introduction The online resources for Sciences for the IB MYP 1: by concept include both supporting materials for the activities in the text, and additional enrichment and extension resources, including: MYP unit planner (one per chapter) These unit planners provide details of alignment of the activities / assessment tasks with the learning objectives, and also give background information and notes to help teachers use the tasks in the classroom – such as whether they are collaborative or independent, whether they are best used as formative or summative assessment tasks, and any safety or environmental impact issues to note. Unit planners also include links and references for a range of suggested enrichment resources. Building Blocks PowerPoint ™ presentation (one per chapter) These presentations can be used to introduce each unit / chapter. The presentations present statements of inquiry, key and related concepts, global contexts and inquiry questions with interesting, engaging images that stimulate student inquiry. Activity sheets (multiple per chapter) These can be used in class as hand-outs for principal activities from the text. These include task briefs for Take Action! Reflecting on the Impacts of Science inquiries, writing frames for laboratory experiments some extended problems to solve. Teacher notes (for the majority of activity sheets) Teacher notes show how the activities align with assessment criteria and include task-adapted rubrics to determine student attainment both with and without the use of hint sheets. Interactive activities (varying per chapter) These interactive activities provide student online tests and quizzes to reinforce and benchmark learning at different points in each unit. In addition to the unit resources, the DL resources include an MYP Key skills section. These are a variety of student resources to reinforce and enrich learning of the ‘AtL cog’ key skills that are highlighted in the text. The key skills section also includes templates for student risk assessment and environmental impact assessment, aligning with requirements for Internal Assessment in the IB Diploma Programme.
