Middle Ages vs. Renaissance! Learning Objective: Students will be able to analyze the different cultural aspects between the Middle Ages values and the Renaissance values in Europe. Students will be able to develop relationship skills, working collaboratively to develop social awareness. Directions: In groups, you will analyze each of the stations (pages) below. Once your group has spent some time analyzing the pictures on each page, you will come to a consensus deciding which picture you believe is from the Middle Ages, and which one is from the Renaissance period, and WHY?! There are 5 pictures/stations total. You will have roughly 3-4 minutes to analyze each station and then you will need to move ahead. It is IMPORTANT that you are all COMMUNICATING/TALKING! You are coming to a group consensus on your decisions and your “why.” I will not tell you how to come up with a consensus, however I will recommend since we just talked about Rome, that you follow the Roman Republic and leave it to a vote. *(Distance Learning Expectation has always been and will continue to be that you have your cameras on, and mics unmuted in the breakout room. Failure to do so will result in a loss of participation points towards this grade). Context: Middle Ages- the period in European history from the collapse of Roman Empire up until the Renaissance (5th century to 15th century). This period of time is described as being extremely hard for the people of Europe. Medieval crisis such as the Black Death or the Crusades left many who were uneducated relying on the church and religion for guidance. Feudalism existed, and people were often categorized into inherited social classes, which determined their status and wealth. Renaissance- the period in European history (Italy) from the end of the Middle ages until the 17th century.(14th century to 17th century). A cultural movement that innovated and highlighted new techniques in art, literature, politics/government, science, and more. It changed societies viewpoints towards many of the focal points of the Middle Ages. Station 1: Art The Picture on the left is from which time period?
