Activity 3: Discuss how the rate-limiting step relates to the bioavailability of a drug. Systemic drug absorption from a drug product consists of a succession of rate processes. In a series of kinetic or rate processes which comprises of the disintegration, dissolution and absorption, the rate at which drug reaches the systemic circulation is determined by the slowest step which is the rate limiting step. Rate limiting step relates to drug bioavailability as it determines the extent and rate at which dose of drug products absorbed and introduced into the systemic circulation to be able to have an active effect.
