Rationale:
Junior doctors and nurses are well informed about assessing need for and initiating
pharmacological VTE prophylaxis in patients but are unsure regarding mechanical VTE
prophylaxis
Aims:
Educate about:
1. Types of mechanical VTE prophylaxis
2. When to choose mechanical over pharmacological VTE prophylaxis?
3. Contraindications of mechanical VTE prophylaxis
Implementation of mechanical VTE prophylaxis
QIP Design:
1. Distribute questionnaire to assess baseline awareness regarding mechanical VTE
prophylaxis
2. Check current implementation of mechanical VTE prophylaxis across acute medical
wards
3. Create poster highlighting when to choose mechanical VTE prophylaxis over
pharmacological VTE prophylaxis
4. Recheck implementation of mechanical VTE prophylaxis in appropriate patients after
raising awareness
