CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
This research aims to improve the existing method of computation of salary for
the employees of Leann`s Teahouse by creating an application that is customized and
suited to it.
Introduction
The two of the many factors that led the transition of an industry is the
optimization and innovation.
“Innovation is the creation of the new or the re-arranging of the old in a new way”
(Vance, Michael, 2007). Innovation is creating new ideas, product or process from
scratch or renovating it to create a new and upgraded version of it. Lockhart and Johnson
(1996) defined optimization as “the process of finding the most effective or favorable
value or condition”. Though optimization is not as grand as innovation, but it is
important especially in the business sector. By aiming the idea to the customer`s needs
and wants you can improve your ideas, products and processes that will better suit them.

Background of the Study
Leann`s Teahouse has been operating since 2014. It is a family owned business,
run by the Chua-Park Family. Leann`s Teahouse only has a single branch located in
Mother Ignicia Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City. Known for their Korean Barbecue, they
offer an unlimited meat and side dishes that you can personally cook. Their most wellknown meat that makes the customers loyal to them is their special meat which they
have imported from Australia, also known as Meltique. They also offer a wide variety of
Korean Cuisine that you can order Ala Carte.
Leann`s Teahouse is a small business that only has a limited number of
employees when it started, so their way of computing salary is only by using the manual
computation. Not until they garnered a couple of employees, only then they transition to
using to Microsoft Excel.
Since we are already in an era were technology were widely used and to make
sure that the company will not get left behind, thus, this gives us, the researchers an idea
to make a study on how to improve the existing way of calculation of the salary of the
employees of Leann`s Teahouse.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
The business world is full of endless opportunity to make it big, or crash and
burn. Small businesses crop up every day, but very few of them last to see a second
anniversary, even when their basic idea was a good one.
Some of the Authors, like Linda Pinson, Jerry Jinnett (2007) and Michele Cagan
C.P.A (2007) they attempt to give theories on how small businesses create their financial
and accounting expenses of their business. Because they are just a small business, they
don’t have enough funds to adapt the new system for that. Usually, they are using the
old method of it that called Bookkeeping/Recordkeeping basics.
Bookkeeping is really just what it sounds like: keeping the books. That includes
every facet of recordkeeping, from writing a check to recording it to marking it off when
it has been cashed to making sure it was cashed for the right amount. In fact, every time
money is involved—even if it has not yet changed hands—there is something to record.
Bookkeeping is by far the most labor-intensive and time-consuming partof accounting. It
is also one of the most important parts, because without it there would be no way to keep
track of your business finances, let alone see how well your company is really doing.
Many new or small-business owners let bookkeeping slide (at least initially), maybe
because it does take so much of their very precious time, or maybe because they just
don’t like working with numbers.

Some books call it a Recordkeeping Basics,. the function of recordkeeping is to
provide you with information that will help you to see the trends that are taking place
within your operation. Some of the small business usually used this method because it is
a complete and simple set of records will make it possible to tell at a glance what is
happening with your business—which areas are productive and cost-effective and which
will require the implementation of changes.

The Input, Process and Output system of the study was used in paradigm of this study.
The conceptual framework are discusses the frame of the study was taken.
The first which is input a system of the three frames it includes the profile in demography
of stakeholders and existing material in computing salary.
The second frame are contains the process of procedure to being use in those variables by
making a survey questioner in conducting a interview, research and to use of statistical analysis
data.
The third frame is the ouput it maybe contain a system that the effect to the manual
computation of the employee's . It was consisted of the following: reliability, accurancy and
transparency.

Statement of the Problem
This study is based on the manual computation of salary of the employees of LeAnn's tea house
with the goal of developing an application that can compute salaries digitally. This will answer
the following question:

Significance of the Study
This research will help not only the manager to make the computation more
convenient but also Leann`s Teahouse itself. By making an application capable of
computation just by inputting the necessary data whenever, wherever the manager are,
we can lessen the time used and it will be more convenient. By utilizing this application
Leann`s Teahouse employees will be more at ease when getting their hard earned salary.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study is conducted in Leann`s Teahouse located in 105R Mother Ignacia
Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City with the manager as our respondent. The purpose of this
study is to improve the existing computation of salary of the employees by making an
application that is customize and more suited to the company.

Ala Carte - Ordering of ready to eat food
Innovation –Creation of novel products or system or changing of features from already
existing product or systems to make it more efficient.
Optimization – Gradual changing of something from a product, design, system to make
it more efficient.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES
This chapter contains the related studies, related literature. There are some researches
studies in this chapter about the importance of being computerize of salary computation
and the factors related to the topic.

system”. their study says that payroll can be made faster when their manual computing
system is replaced by a computerized system to make less effort to input the payroll.

Accounting on Performance of Payroll”. When using computerized accounting for
payroll it is better because the system used is already storing data and can be seen and
computed faster. for the process to be smooth and effective

It says that the purpose of the application they use is to speed up the processing of
salaries of teachers in Jakarta and to be accurate, effective and efficient.

being automated and has an advantage to provide user to increase security and minimize
the calculation errors, reason for not being able to provide the right salary.

Nowadays in a present time this computerized application was development of the
computers for the business establishment, computer center and some companies. Our
country of the Philippines we can say that we can complete because of the technology
from the system. Because this system was innovative to improve a new software in a
company that we need to computerized a side from manual computation for the salary

system proposed to make fast by employees to input and output that can organized all
tasks of employee payment.
Based on the study Aguilera, Bronzas, and Marqueses was automated payroll
system of Pamana Medical Center (2010). It is a great payroll is really one of the most
important issues to make pay attention in almost every company. But nowadays it is
more convenient for most companies to use computerized payroll software. It is
impossible to handle the payroll responsibilities that using Ledger sheet and also
calculators but the schools are also not exempted in using a payroll system. This study of
payroll system to establish a great relationship with their employees to providing them
an appropriate benefits and the right they must enjoy it.
According to the researcher Chris Woodford in March 21,2020 the last updated
this computer was truly coming from the own as a great invention. It is a simple
calculator that was made from a breads and wires they have a different between to an
ancient abacus and to the modern computer seems vast but it is still used in some parts
of the world, the calculation is more quickly than thr human brain but it is exactly the
same.
And from study of Aquino (2005) the computer application was very important to
increasing day by day. This computer information technology for them to be able to
develop a products fast and make a decision fast, the external of environment by the
rapid development of innovative approaches and a lastly using information system

In 2007 Mendrez was made a similar study of vision designer. It has been identification

verification. This will help an accurate to monitoring attendances and more precise they

This are proposed by TD & S Hope Christian Academy in (2014) the student was
inventory process inside the system. It is important to have a computerized system that
the two students proposed system for their library system as being focuses on the
checking in and checking out of the books. The all students in school who have a
penalty fee and inventory process of all the books we borrow in their library. This are
proposed computerized system is designed to improve their method used in a much
accurate and reliable way in school.

This is related to the literature and studies the proponents was made a relative to
comparison of the studies and literature in an earlier section of this chapter. As
conducted this proposal has based on computing salary some of it's a concept from such
documents. The main proposed is a system are uses list of employee coming from the
manager, yet the application capable of computation was relies on the system itself. One

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This research used a descriptive approach on the collected data to interpret and
describe how

assigned to compute the salary of their employees as our respondents.

This research main objective is to optimize the existing method of computing the
salary of the employees which only the manager knows, thus the population of this
research only revolves around the manager of Leann`s Teahouse.

Research Instruments
This research use a descriptive analysis which describe and interpret the data
collected. It involves a rating to determine the effectiveness of using a computerized
computation.The research has been done using a Survey Questionnaire in the form of
Google forms. We use the questionnaire as our reference for this research.
Data Gathering Procedure:
The Survey Questionnaire provided to our respondent has been sent through her
Gmail account. It is composed of questions written in English Language. The Gathered
data collected from the Online Survey Questionnaire in the form of Google forms is
used on this research. The questionnaire is composed of quantitative and qualitative
questions. Leann`s Teahouse`s Manager who is the only respondent that we asked to
answer the survey has been asked on her personal information, such as her name, age
(optional) and her position in the store. Through rating, the questionnaire also asked
questions regarding her opinion on the accuracy and reliability of the manual
computation, along with how transparent the employer to their employees in regards to
their salary. In the qualitative approach, we asked the respondent about her difficulties
or problems encountered when computing the employee’s salary and the material she
used in computing.

Statistical Treatment of Data
The researchers used the online survey questionnaire in gathering data from our
respondent. The data were analyzed and describe using descriptive analysis. The data
