The course aims to provide the student with an introduction to the role of money, financial markets, financial
institutions and monetary policy in the economy, thus providing a solid foundation for further study or
employment in the financial services industry. It provides the information to study the role played by banks
in modern monetary economies and financial markets, including issues arising from bank regulation, the role
of banks in financial intermediation, and the significance of bank behaviour in monetary policy. Once
conventions establish themselves as institutions, they dictate what purposes in fact can be served. An
important objective of this course is to investigate the principal financial institutions involved in our macro
economy. This course provides an overall perspective on the monetary and financial institutions. Monetary
institutions can only be understood if one knows the magnitudes of the economic variables associated with
them.
At the completion of course, the students will be able to:
 Understand the basics of Banking sector
 Understand what is Money and its functions
 Differentiate between different types of financial institutions and their working
 Differentiate between conventional and Islamic banking
 Evaluate different banking instruments
 Understand Islamic Modes of Financing
 Understand the functioning of Banking sector in national and international trade
