THE POOL OF UNSEEN MAGGOT
There is a pool of unseen maggot. To the eye of men, the pool is clean like the rivers flowing in the
Garden Eden. Everyone is quick to rush into the pool to swim. I was privy to have been there. I saw
even little children and the aged rushing to jump into the pool. So you can imagine the countless of
young people. They seem to be enjoying themselves quite very well-exhibiting all the swimming
skills one can imagine. I was enticed to jump into the pool to relieve myself, as everyone would do.
But there was a man shouting behind my back that I should stop and observe something. With such
a loud voice sounding at my back, fear grip me. Therefore, I did not hesitate in obeying the man’s
admonishment. I got a seat around me and sat down to observe.
In the pool, I observed someone scratching his back. That person thought it was one of his
colleagues playing with him so he kept enjoying himself. The itch persisted with the same thought, I
believed, operating in the mind of that person. The observed then turned around in the pool in order
to caution his colleague. To his utter surprise, the pool was half-filled with blood. So many were also
scratching themselves and some screaming. The observed attempted to escape from the pool but
there so many people blocking his way out. Everyone was also running for his life. Suddenly, I saw
people dying in the pool. My anxiety had caused me to get closer to the pool to get a clearer view of
this horrific incident.
I saw these maggots out of nowhere in the pool. They had filled the whole body of all the swimmers.
These maggots were not ordinary (like those which feeds on dead organism). They were hybrid of
maggot and leech; something like a vampire. But something triggered my attention. On the other
side of the pool was the same man who had earlier warn me not to swim in the pool with an
outstretch hand towards those surviving ones in the pool. So many people were stretching their
hands while swimming towards that man to save them. Many were pulled out others were while
struggling had died in the pool. The person that I earlier observed and spoken of was so lucky. He
had brushed his way through the crowd (that is the dead bodies and surviving bodies) and was
finally saved by the man.
I rushed to that person. Instead of asking how he was doing, I was quick to ask him what had
happened inside the pool? To my surprise, he answered my question. He told me that when he
entered into the pool, the pleasure in the pool had imprisoned him and he could not say he had had
enough in the pool. All of a sudden, he felt something thrilling his feet. Initially, he thought it was his
friend, as I had observed, doing that. That thrilling feeling had escalated into the feeling of been
bitten by a mosquito. This feeling then also deepen into that of one bitten by a beast. So painful it
was he described. It was then he had turned around to warn his friends to halt the horseplay.
Surprisedly, the fresh appetizing pool had turned into blood! He saw “those maggots” eating the
flesh of people. They had filled some people to the extent that it had covered their whole bodies
including their eyes! People were crying. But what terrify him was “these maggots” kept multiplying
on the bodies as many times they were gotten rid of. When he had finished narrating his story, I
could not hold out my tears. I was like a man place in the top of mountain in the north pole. I was
shivering unceasingly as went on my way home.
This pool exemplified the reality of the sin of sexual immorality. To eyes of men, it seems to give
pleasure and satisfy the fleshy desire. For this reason, it is recorded in the book of Proverbs 5:2-3
that: for the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey and her speech is smoother than oil. Solomon
described it as an apple tree among the trees of the forest and this apple requested that it should
refresh him when he is sick with love. It is therefore no surprise that David could not withstand it.
For even an anointed man of God, a man after God’s own heart could not run away from that
pleasure of the sin of sexual immorality. “in the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to
battle, David remained at Jerusalem. It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his
couch and was walking on the roof of the king’s house that he saw from the roof a woman bathing;
and the woman was very beautiful. And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said,” Is
not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” Nevertheless, David would
send messengers and take Bathsheba and lay with her- 2 SAMUEL 11:1-4
Because the nature of sex arouses the human pleasure, it entices the heart of a person to whore
(yield) for it and this lead to the commission of the sin of sexual immorality. Until one’s get hold of it,
his conscience would never be satisfied. Thus, it is noted in James 1:14-15 but each person is
tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives
birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. This attest to why even the little
children and the aged wanted to swim in that pool- the sexual feeling is inherent in all humans
irrespective of the age.
The story of Amnon exemplifies the way the pleasure of sexual immorality can push a man to do. So,
it was recorded in 2 Samuel 13:1-14, Absalom, David’s son had a beautiful sister, whose name was
Tamar. And after a time Amon, David’s son loved her. And Amnon was so tormented that he made
himself ill because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do
anything to her. But when she[Tamar] brought food near him to eat, he took hold of her and said to
her “Come lie with me, my sister.” She answered him, “No, my brother, do not violate me, for such a
thing is not done in Israel; do not do this outrageous thing.1” But Amnon did not listen to her, and he
violated her and lay with her.
In the case of a woman, we can use the story of Potiphar’s wife. Genesis 39:7-17 And after a time his
[Joseph] master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.” But Joseph refused. Verse
10-12, and as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her on to be
with her. But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the
house was there in the house, she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But Joseph left
his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house.
Solomon also describes a woman who is got up by the lust for sexual immorality. Song of Solomon
3:1-4; “on my bed by night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but found him not. I will
rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul loves.
I sought him, but found him not. The watchmen found me as they went about in the city, “Have you
seen him whom my soul loves?” Scarcely had I passed them when I found whom my soul loves I held
him, and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber
of her who conceived me.
Because the taste of sexual immorality is sweeter as that of a Honey-Proverbs 5:3- just a taste of it
makes one glued to it. The bible says in proverbs 13:19; a desired fulfilled is sweet to the soul.
Because it is sweet to the soul, the soul would always crave for it. An illustration of this fate is like
that of a person addicted to drugs or pornography. Such persons do not feel comfortable if s/he has
not satisfied his sexual desire. In reference to the pool scenario, this explains why the observedswimmer felt stuck when got into the pool. The never unsatisfactory nature of the pleasure of sexual
immorality is well captured in Ezekiel 16:28- “You played the whore also with the Assyrians, because
you were not satisfied; yes, you played the whore with them, and still you were not satisfied.”

Proverbs 23:27 says a prostitute is a deep pit; an adulteress is a narrow well. She lies in wait like a
robber and increases the unfaithful among mankind.
The reader and I would each bear witness to the undisputed fact that sexual desire deprives a man
of self-control and the bible describes a man without self-control like a city broken into and left
without walls (Proverbs 25:28). This explain why Solomon, a once steward of the Most High God,
heart could easily turn after foreign powerless god because of his love for many foreign women. -1
Kings 11: 1-4; 9-10. The lust had made him forget all the precaution God and his father, David had
given him concerning obeying, keeping and walking in the commandment of God. - Deuteronomy
7:2-4; 1 Kings 9:4-7, 2 Chronicle 28:9, Deuteronomy 12:30-31, Nehemiah 13:26-27
With the pleasure of sexual immorality at its fullness, it makes a man blind to his senses, reasoning
and basic knowledge. Then, that maggot of sexual immorality comes in. at first, it is seen as normal
and harmless but as time progresses it becomes more dangerous. This is how it is described in the
bible. In Proverbs 5:3-6; For the lips of a forbidden woman drips honey, and her speech is smoother
than oil, but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to
death; her steps follow the path to Sheol (HELL); she does not ponder the path of life; her ways
wander and she does not know it; and at the end of your life you groan, when your flesh and the
body are consumed, and you say, How I hated disciplines and my heart despised reproof! “I did not
listen to the voice of my teachers or incline my ears to my instructors. I am at the brink of utter ruin
in the assembled congregation. Also in Proverbs 7:21-23- with much seductive speech she persuades
him; with her smooth talk she compels him. All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the
slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he
does not know that it will cost him his life. Verse 26 for many a victim has she laid low and all her
slain are a mighty throng. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death. See
also Proverbs 9:13-18.
So let take an exemplified reality life of sexual immorality: it starts like, “I love you” then move to “I
want to be with you” then to “let do it again” then to “relationship troubles”-this is where maggot
becomes to thrill the body- then to “hatred” then to “another relation” then to “unwanted
pregnancy and its associated consequence” then to “sexual-related diseases” then to “death”
In reference to the pool of maggot scenario, I had said that some in the pool had died while others
were struggling their way out and there was a man with a stretch hand wanting to save these
people. What this means is that some people who are caught by this addictive and unceasing sin of
sexual immorality are fortunate to live to repent and saved by the power of the mighty hand of God.
Some are misfortunate in the sense that they die while in that addictive sexual immorality lifestyle
and also struggling unsuccessfully to change their lifestyle. It also importantly attests to the fact
those who die in wallowing in sexual sin are ignorant of Christ Jesus’s power to redeem humans
from the bondage and also about his teachings admonishing as to desist from sexual immorality (this
is to the lukewarm Christain). For this reason, 1 Thessalonians 4:13 says do not want you to be
ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no
hope. Romans 6:16 “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves to obey, you are that
one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to
righteousness?” More so, those who were dying in that pool and those who are death had always
seen the Power of the Gospel of Christ for salvation as a folly and have rather embrace that satanic,
human philosophy popularly known as human secularism. Thus, it is written in 1 Corinthians 1:18for the word of the cross is folly to those are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power

Brethren and sisters, I have taken time to use scenarios and scripture to draw your attention to a
serious, destructive weapon the devil is using in our days. Today thankfully we have JESUS CHRIST
who has died for our sins and keeps on interceding on our behalf as a High Priest. The consequence
of such an indulgence in the pool of sexual immorality does not lead to automatic death just as it
was prior to Jesus coming to die for us. But the law on the sin of sexual immorality has not changed.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever more. Today, by the grace of God, the
imminent wrath of God has been muted to a serious warning to us. The then Apostles and leader of
the vibrant keeps warning us on this.
Revelation 17 says that the great prostitutes is on many waters, and with the wine of whose sexual
immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk. The scripture furthers say that that woman is
a great city and has dominion over the kings of earth. For all nations have drunk the wine of the
passion of her sexual immorality.
It is therefore no surprise the talk of sex has no stigma attached to it among unmarried people. Sex
is everywhere! Today, a child even at a tender age is introduced to a relationship with opposite sex.
He reaches his teenage age and his/her mind is all about sex. Researchers estimate that an average
young person’s thoughts turn to the opposite sex approximately once every fourteen minutes.2
Parents are not even ashamed to engage their wards into sexual relationship about their partner.
Instead of teaching the word of God- Proverbs 22b. Likewise, some Pastors instead of engaging
young people into prayer, indirectly incite them into unnecessary relations- LUKE 11:1-13.
Beloved, the Bible has warned us that we should flee sexual immorality, for every other sin a person
commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body_1
Corinthians 6: 18.
For the youth, the advice is that flee from youthful lust (desire) and pursue righteousness, faith, love
and peace along with those who call on the LORD out of a pure heart- 2 Timothy 2: 22
It is written in Songs of Solomon 2:7 – I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or the
does of the field, that you not stir up or awake love until it pleases. To the youth, hold it! For there is
time for everything; there is time for love- Ecclesiastes 3:7 and there is time to wait upon the LORDPsalm 119:9
The time of Jesus Christ is drawing closer and closer and this what he says to the pool of sexual
immorality, “Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her
plagues, for her sins are heaped high as heaven and God has remembered her iniquities.”
Strategies to avoid sin of sexual immorality: prayer, controlling your desire- let your no be no and
your yes be yes- Matthew 5:37
When you are tempted, keep your cool blood and do not panic- James 4:7
Keep praying and fasting until the desire to sin quits you- Matthew 26: 41
Ask God for forgiveness of sin each time you fall into such a temptation- Proverbs 24:16
Avoid the company of friends who are unwilling to change their sexual immorality- 2 Timothy 3:1-5
