Homemade Water Filter
What are water filters made of? You and your group will create a water filter that will clean dirty pond
water. Your job is to research different types of water filters, and then create what you believe is the
perfect prototype to clean dirt and bacteria from water.
I will provide the following materials:




Activated Charcoal
Cotton Balls
Sand
Coffee Filters
You will be responsible for providing other materials.
You will be graded on the following:



Overall Design
o Is it easy to use?
o Is it functional?
o Can it be used more than once?
Efficiency
o Did it filter the water? Or was the water still dirty?
Group Work
o Did all members of the group participate equally?
o Can all group members explain how the filter works and why you chose the design?
Steps that you need to take:



Research many different designs for water filters
Draw a detailed prototype of your water filter
o Include dimensions, materials, and steps to make the filter
A short paragraph for why you chose the design, and how well you think it will work.
o Also include the purpose/function of each material item
