EISNEHOWER PRESIDENT (1952-1960) EISENHOWER DOCTRINE – Congress authorize the use of U.S. military force whenever the
president thought it necessary to assist Middle East nations resisting Communist aggression
Five (5) reasons that Eisenhower was elected (Think about Ike’s history and negative events when Truman was President.)
How does Eisenhower fight communism during
the Cold War?
Massive retaliation – use of nuclear
weapons is M.A.D. (mutually assured
destruction)
Central Intelligence Agency
(CIA)
Develop a
prosperous economy
Brinkmanship – willingness to go to
the brink of war to force the other side
to back down (think of it like playing a
game of chicken with atomic bombs)
Covert (hidden) operations in
developing countries to persuade
against communism without war
but possibly train and support
revolutionary forces
Economy does well
under capitalism,
helps to prevent
communism in U.S.
and other countries
Large build up of nuclear weapons

Based upon your coloring, please make two (2) generalizations about Cold War threats and conflicts in the world from 1945-1958.

BONUS
You will earn one point bonus for each country that you identify the location (by name on the map) where the United States tried to prevent
communism and color in that country as either (green-successful in stopping communism) or (orange- unsuccessful in stopping communism).
