Creating a Print Advertisement for
Holden’s Hat
Print ads must be eye-catching and attractive to draw the viewer’s attention
Requirements:
1. A very clever title for the advertisement, clearly related to novel
2. A full-color illustration of the hat, based upon description in text
3. A list of at least three benefits a person would experience from owning the hat, based
upon the benefits Holden apparently experiences from owning and wearing the hat
4. Two quotes from the text (with “big book” citation) that demonstrate the benefits of
hat ownership for Holden
5. A reasonable price for the purchase of the hat and suggestions for where it can be
purchased

What to do…
1. On a piece of scratch paper, make an overall plan for your advertisement
2. Find the quotes needed for #4 above and create the perfectly worded list for #3 above. Write
these items on scratch paper
3. Show the plan to Mrs. Campbell. If approved, THEN get paper for poster.
4. Cut a piece of butcher paper that measures 36” x 36”
5. Get markers/colored pencils and get rolling.
