Anbessa shoe is the first modern
shoe manufacturing company in
Ethiopia;
The company was established in
1935;
It has been in the shoe business
for over 80 years;
In 1974 Anbessa shoe was
nationalized and became state
owned company;
After 37 years, in 2011 the company
was privatized to the current share
holders;
Since then, the company is Managed
by board of directors with various
experience in the business;
THE OLD FACTORY
ACTIVITIES AFTER PRIVATIZATION
 Huge investment was made in Old
production facility in:1. employees skill development;
2. New technology and machineries purchase;
3. Recruitment of expatriates;
4. Design and product development;
5. Quality improvement
 Results from these investments:1. Daily Production improved from 3500-4500
2. Employees skill upgraded;
3. Product diversified;
4. Production Management system improved;

Market destinations:The company serves both the domestic and
international market like USA, EU, Asia and Africa;
NEW PRODUCTION FACILITY
• Equipped with modern machineries and will have a daily
production capacity of 10,000 pairs of shoe;
• It plans to export 70% of its production;
• Built within 2km radius of the Ethio-Djibouti rail way main
terminal of Lebu station;
• Designed and built to fulfill international standards;
• On process of QMS implementation and ISO 9001:2015
certification;
INVESTMENT IN BACKWARD INTEGRATION
To insure sustainable supply of raw materials
Anbessa is investing on:
1 TANNERY PROJECT
 Secured 15,000m2 of land in Bahirdar town;
 The factory design is on process
 has a daily finishing capacity of 15,000 skins and 1500
hides;
2 SOLE MANUFACTURING
 The company has outsole manufacturing facility
in old factory;
 Dual color TR/PVC outsole machineries are
purchased and installed in the new production
facility;
3 CUTTING DIE MAKING
 The new factory have a modern facility of cutting
die making section;
 Foreign experts are recruited and giving a training
for our employees
STATUS OF THE NEW FACTORY
 Machineries have installed and started Production
since September 2017;
 More than 500 New additional employees recruited
and trained in LIDI and Joined the company;
 Expatriates are employed to improve product design,
production system and quality control;
New Product Development/Technical Centre
established with Modern facilities
Modern and International Standard Production
