What's the rule of Laam
Saakinah?
• If Laam Saakinah followed by any
letters except “ Laam or Raa’ “, Laam
Saakinah should be pronounced
clearly
• This called “Izhar”
• Ex: ‫يَ ْلعَبُون‬
- ‫َجعَ ْلنَا – َه ْل أَتَى – بَ ْل ت ُ َك ِّذبُون‬

should be merged into this “Laam or
Raa’ “
• This called “Idgham”
• Ex: ‫لَّ َّما‬
‫يَ ْجعَل لَّ ُكم – قُل َّرب – فَ َهل لَّ ُكم – بَل‬
Note:
• There is no place in the Holy Qur’an
where “‫ ”هل‬is followed by “Raa’”.
• There is an exception to the rule in verse 14
of surah Al-Mutaffifeen }‫{بَ ْل َران‬
• In this verse the participle ‫ بل‬is followed by a
“Raa’” ; the first letter of the next word, but
there is no merging, since the reciter Hafs ‘an
‘Aasim by the way of Shatabiyyay has a
breathless pause, or “‫ ”سكت‬between these
two words.
• A “‫ ”سكت‬is a stop without taking a breath,
for a period of time less than that of a normal
stop.
