Subject: Integrated Science Date: November 16-20,2020 Grade:7 Topic: Energy Subtopic: Renewable and Non-renewable Energy Objectives At the end of the lesson students should be able to; Distinguish between renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy Give 2 examples of renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. Energy Renewable and Non- Renewable Energy Let’s Watch a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Giek094C_l4 Focus Questions What did you learn from the video? In your own words create a definition for renewable and non-renewable energy? Give two examples of each energy source. What is Renewable Energy? Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources. They can be replenished in a very short period and they never run out. These energy sources can neither be created or destroyed. What is Non-Renewable Energy? Non renewable energy is a source of energy that will eventually run out. They cannot be replaced once they have been used. It takes thousands of years to form and we use them at such a fast rate that there is not enough time for them to be replaced. What is Renewable Energy? Cont’d Examples Solar hydro Wind Tidal Geothermal Power Solar Energy- this is harnessing the energy from the sun to produce electricity. Solar cell can be used to convert the sun’s energy into electricity. Tidal Energy https://www.youtube.co m/watch?v=VkTRcTyDS yk Wind is plentiful and a clean source of energy. A collection of wind mills is called a wind farm. These farms produce noise so is mostly away from large populations. A wind mill is not suitable for every position and is depend on wind speeds or availability. Geothermal energyuses the heat inside the Earth to produce steam that drives turbines to produce electricity. BIOMASS ENERGY -this involves the conversion of solid fuel made from plant materials. It involves the burning of organic material to produce electricity however wood is not used. What did you learn today? TO BE CONTINUE!!! What is Non-Renewable Energy? Cont’d Examples Oil Gas Coal Fossil Fuel
