System maintenance Modern energy equipment is normally provided with automatic circuits for protection and supervision. However, in order to secure system availability, system maintenance is vital. Preventive maintenance may consist for example, of a scheduled inspection, once or twice per year, of the control and supervisory functions of the equipment, the exchange of expendable parts, such as filters in air handling units, and battery and diesel performance tests on a monthly basis. Hardware services Hardware service aims to maximize safety and reliability by means of firstline maintenance operations. To provide uninterrupted service, the buffer stock of replacement units will be kept up-to-date so your O&M engineers have spare parts at hand if a fault should occur. A repair and replacement contract with Emerson Energy Systems stipulates set times for the repair or replacement of faulty hardware. Return repair Return repair means that the faulty unit is sent for repair and then returned to the customer. Advanced swap Advanced swap means that a swap unit is ordered directly from Emerson Energy Systems, before the faulty unit is sent for repair. The swap unit is delivered within an agreed time frame. Spare parts management The purpose of this service is to handle a large portion of buffer stock needs and provide deliveries on very short notice. This computerized supervision and control system for energy equipment provides detailed information, which offers great cost savings in maintenance and improved system reliability. 17 EEM Emerson EnergyMaster™ “ EEM enables cost savings and improved system reliability ” Emerson EnergyMaster™ (EEM) can be used to supervise, control and maintain all sorts of energy equipment in a telecommunications network. This computerized supervision and control system provides detailed information to reduce maintenance costs and improve system reliability. With operating and maintenance costs for energy equipment representing one of the biggest single operating expenses in a network, it pays to control and monitor your energy systems. Network solution EEM supervises and controls a network of sites with energy equipment. The main computer collects data automatically from each site and stores the information in a database for efficient handling of all energy equipment in the network. Due to the scalability of the system, the network can easily be expanded. Complete site solution Today, most power equipment suppliers offer some kind of system for remote supervision, but few have the connectivity for older-generation power equipment. 18 EEM, in contrast, is a complete solution for all energy-related equipment. When equipped with the EnergyMaster Site Manager, many types of energy equipment lacking built-in intelligence, such as batteries, older types of power plants and standby generators, can be included in the management system. Integrated solution Since most Emerson energy system products are prepared for connection to EEM, on-site installation costs are reduced to a minimum. “ EEM is a complete solution for energy management ” EEM Today, there are a large number of energy management systems with different interfaces, protocols and functions. The implementation and operation of some energy management systems can be costly, due to the use of non-standard software and interfaces. Management systems today have to meet the following basic requirements: • An open system supporting industry-standard protocols • A modular system offering independent functionality that can be expanded in a flexible way, allowing functional growth in line with customer needs • A scalable system allowing a customer to start with a small configuration whose capacity can be gradually increased when needed • An integrated system for costeffective installation EnergyMaster Site Manager meets all of the above requirements. EEM utilizes two types of software for the main computer: Energy Management Application Software (EMAS), and EnergyMaster Exchange Manager (EXMG). The equipment required at the site is called EnergyMaster Site Manager (ESM), and consists of a family of products for site supervision. EMAS The UNIX™-based software EMAS meets all requirements for flexibility in a management system today. Energy management systems must be capable of handling a large number of energy systems that are both computerized and non-computerized. EMAS has the flexibility to manage this. EXMG The Windows®-based software EXMG is used to supervise and monitor energy-related equipment. The system is designed for both local and remote operation. EXMG allows the operator to perform practically all operable functions directly on the equipment, without having to visit the site where it is installed. ESM ESM is a family of products developed for site equipment. The product portfolio consists of supervision modules (SMs) that enable a flexible and scalable system designed to fit each unique site. 19 EMAS For network supervision “ A software product for remote management of energy-related products in a telecommunications network ” Benefits • Cuts maintenance costs • Improves network availbility • UNIX™-based to ensure a stable platform and high reliability • Large expansion capability to protect your investment and ensure that functionality is maintained, even for large networks • Accessible via Internet 20 EMAS is a product for remote for network supervision of power systems, climate systems and energy-related products in a telecommunications network. EMAS provides supervision functions for the entire network. The use of EMAS enables major improvements in maintenance activities and network availability. Industry standards such as HP Open View and HP-UX are used, making EMAS an open system. EMAS can communicate with other management systems to ensure that maximum benefits are obtained. The software supports communication standards like SNMP, TCP/IP and X.25. Product contents • SNMP interface • Open view network map • Communication modules - RS 232 - TCP/IP - X.25 • Wingz for customized reports Applications • AC and DC power systems • Climate systems • Standby engine alternators • UPS systems • Other energy-related applications EXMG For site supervision EXMG is a Windows®-based software for remote for site supervision of power systems, climate systems and batteries in telecommunications networks.
