Contributing to success
In our business concept we state we shall contribute to our
customers’ success. As a provider of energy solutions for
telecom, how do you accomplish that? Several necessary
factors are obvious; reliable products and systems, competitive
prizing and fulfilling commitments on time. The most important
factor, however, is probably understanding the customers
operation. Based on that understanding we as a supplier can
use our expertise in the field of energy systems for developing
and suggesting optimal solutions. We can take the step from
being an equipment supplier to being a partner in developing
our customers systems and operations.
– We can be a contributor to success.
Contributing to success.
There is a trend in telecom where
operators and system suppliers alike
concentrate on their respective core

than 100 countries, and supporting
telecom equipment from all major
manufacturers, our experience covers
all aspects of telecom energy.
More than 100 years of experience in
the field does not hurt either, but it is
the ability today that counts.
Our designers and application
engineers work continuously together
with operators and system suppliers to
develop optimal energy solutions for
today and tomorrow. When doing so,
they are backed by the joint experience
of the most global, and one of the

”
Emerson EnergyMaster™ (EEM) can be used to supervise, control
and maintain all sorts of energy equipment in a telecommunications network. This computerized supervision and control
system provides detailed information to reduce maintenance costs
and improve system reliability. With operating and maintenance
costs for energy equipment representing one of the biggest single
operating expenses in a network, it pays to control and monitor
your energy systems.
Network solution
EEM supervises and controls a network
of sites with energy equipment. The
main computer collects data automatically from each site and stores the
information in a database for efficient
handling of all energy equipment in
the network.
Due to the scalability of the system,
the network can easily be expanded.
Complete site solution
Today, most power equipment suppliers offer some kind of system for
remote supervision, but few have the
connectivity for older-generation
power equipment.
18
EEM, in contrast, is a complete
solution for all energy-related
equipment. When equipped with the
EnergyMaster Site Manager, many
types of energy equipment lacking
built-in intelligence, such as batteries,
older types of power plants and standby generators, can be included in the
management system.
Integrated solution
Since most Emerson energy system
products are prepared for connection to
EEM, on-site installation costs are
reduced to a minimum.
“
EEM is a complete

management
”
EEM
Today, there are a large number of
energy management systems with
different interfaces, protocols and
functions. The implementation and
operation of some energy management
systems can be costly, due to the use of
non-standard software and interfaces.
Management systems today have to
meet the following basic requirements:
• An open system supporting
industry-standard protocols
• A modular system offering independent functionality that can be
expanded in a flexible way, allowing
functional growth in line with
customer needs
• A scalable system allowing a
customer to start with a small
configuration whose capacity can be
gradually increased when needed
• An integrated system for costeffective installation
EnergyMaster Site Manager meets all
of the above requirements.

Emerson EnergyMaster™
Applications
More than 2,000 installations of EEM are in service with operators
around the world. The modular design of ESM enables different
types of applications to be supervised in an easy and optimizing
way. The following diagrams illustrate a few of the most common
configurations.
Integrated CSUs are used to supervise a
power system. To include battery supervision, a set of supervision modules (SMs)
forms a battery group that is automatically
recognized by the integrated CSU.
The AC is supervised by the SM6.
ESM can handle power systems from
almost any supplier including applications
for +24 V.

Inverters
Emerson offers a product line of DC/AC inverter systems
specifically designed to ensure the operation of AC-powered
equipment in telecom environments. By tradition, telecom
networks are extremely reliable in operation and all subsystems,
including energy conversion products, must support this attribute.
The product line of inverter systems meets these requirements
while being cost-effective and capable of satisfying the needs of
most AC loads with regard to capacity, voltage and frequency.
Product contents
Inverter systems can consist of various
inverters, cabinets, static bypass
switch, service bypass and accessories
to be configured to a specific load or
application. Systems are typically rated
at 5 and 12.5 kVA.
Applications
The existence and widespread use of
reliable DC power plants, typically
providing 24, 48 or 60 volt DC
output with battery reserve, make it
advantageous to use DC voltage as the
energy source for all loads by
converting it to all other required
voltages. Inverters are the preferred
choice for reliable AC powering of
critical loads, as well as for AC backup
power, when the load demands a long
battery reserve time (two hours or
more), which is normal in public
telecom networks.
Features
• AC loads receive reliable, conditioned power with the same battery
reserve time as telecom DC loads
• The inverters generate sinusoidal
output voltages and are compatible
with all loads intended and certified
for an AC mains supply
• Existing investments in telecom
DC power plants are utilized
