An adjectival clause is a group of words which contains a subject and a predicate of
its own but it is not a complete sentence. It functions as an adjective and is used after
a noun. It is introduced by relative pronouns such as who, whom, ryhose, which and
that. Adjective or Adjectival Clauses can be replaced by Adjective Phrases of the same

Adjective clauses can also be grouped under defining clauses (eg. That is the man who
caught a thief yesterday.) and non-defining clauses (eg. Alfred, who is our kind
neighbour, had an accident yesterday) . The non-defining adjective clause gives us more
information about the subject and is usually marked offby coflrmas.
