Unit 3 – Using Social Media in Business
Assignment 1 – Learning Aim A
It would be a good idea to have the following:
- An introduction to the assignment.
PASS:
A.P1 – Explain the different ways in which a business can use social media.
It is important that you have more than one slide/paragraph and more than one real-life
example for each of the points in P1.
Explain means that you should be providing a lot of detail about each one. Presume that
the person reading your presentation has no idea what social media is and how it can be
used.
The following should be included:
Description
Brand Image – Provide detailed information on how a business can use
social media to promote their brand.
What features of social media can be used? – Profile picture, banner? Can
they use rewards to promote the brand? How will this work?
Provide a real-life example of a business promoting their brand on social
media.
Promoting Products – Provide detailed information on how a business can
use social media to promote products. Images of the products? Videos of
the products?
Explain why a business would want to promote their products on social
media.
Have you included a real-life example of a business promoting their products
on social media? Have you explained what that particular business has
done?
Will promoting products allow for the brand to grow? How?
Communicating with Customers – What are the different ways that a business
can use social media to communicate with customers?
Why is it important for a business to communicate with their customers?
Can you give a real-life example of a business, or two, communicating with
their customers? Have you explained what your real-life examples are
showing?
What types of information can the business communicate to the customer?
Resolving Issues – Explain what is meant by resolving issues.
How can a business resolve a customer’s issues on social media? DM’s?
Replying to comments? What is the benefit of replying to comments? What is
the benefit of resolving an issue through a DM?
Give a real-life example of when a business has resolved an issue on social
media. Explain what they have done.

A.P2 – Explain the audience profiles of different social media websites.
The following should be included:
Description
Facebook – Explain the audience profile of Facebook. Who is their main
audience? What age range? What gender? Find data on the demographics
of Facebook and explain what your findings show.
Facebook’s Audience – Explain how Facebook appeals to the different
audiences of the site. What specific features make an audience use that
site?
Explain how a business could use this information to support their use of social
media.
Twitter – Explain the audience profile of Twitter. Who is their main audience?
What age range? What gender? Find data on the demographics of Twitter
and explain what your findings show.
Twitter’s Audience – Explain how Twitter appeals to the different audiences of
the site. What specific features make an audience use that site?
Explain how a business could use this information to support their use of social
media.
Instagram – Explain the audience profile of Instagram. Who is their main
audience? What age range? What gender? Find data on the demographics
of Instagram and explain what your findings show.
Instagram’s’ Audience – Explain how Instagram appeals to the different
audiences of the site. What specific features make an audience use that
site?
Explain how a business could use this information to support their use of social
media.
Another Site – Explain the audience profile of another site.
Following this, explain how this site appeals to their audience. What features
make those users use that site? How can a business use this information to
benefit them?

A.M1 – Assess the different ways in which a business can use social media to attract a
target audience.
The following should be included:
Description
Attracting a Target Audience – Outline a range of different ways that social
media can be used to attract a target audience.
Assess the methods (more than one!) that you have suggested – what are
the advantages and disadvantages of these methods!
Provide real-life examples of different business’ using these methods and
explain exactly what they have done. Get an image!
Interacting with a Target Audience – Outline the many different ways that a
business can use social media to interact with their target audience.
Done?
Again, you need to explain what the advantages and disadvantages are for
each of the ways that you have suggested – Use clear examples to support
your discussion.
A.D1 – Evaluate the business use of social media to interact with customers and promote
products or services to a target audience.
The following should be included:
Description
Well Balanced Evaluation – Throughout your work you should be evaluating
(making a judgement) the use of social media for business purposes.
This means that you should be making business related observations and
explaining what you mean in detail.
You should be explaining the benefits and disadvantages of using social
media for business purposes while considering the target audience of the
business.
Real-life examples – Provide real-life examples of businesses that have used
social media effectively.
Provide real-life examples of businesses that have not used social media
effectively. Those businesses that have not managed the risks involved
effectively.
Evidence – This is distinction level so you will need to be using high-quality
written communication throughout the assignment.
You will need to ensure that you are using technical vocabulary.
Additionally, you must make sure that your evaluation provides reasoned,
valid judgements.
