THINGS TO PLAN FOR IN YOUR COMPENSATION NEGOTIATION ROLE PLAY
Round # of Negotiation: ___________First Round of Negotiation____Your Name & Role: ___Jaya
____Employee____________
1. What are your role’s primary underlying interests and goals (i.e., why do you want to negotiate on
these issues)?
As Alpha Inc. ‘s Chief Accounting Assistant I have grown within the company and reached one of the
highest ranking positions. My primary goals and interest no longer depend on base salary as I am
fulfilled and content with my current pay. As a senior executive I now have put an emphasis on my
work life balance and qualitative improvements to my daily work routine that will continue to
motivate my drive. I feel I should negotiate on these issues as I have demonstrated that I am an
asset to the company and now should be allowed the opportunity to ask for ways to elevate my
work and satisfaction at work.
2. Prioritize the issues of your role ADD MORE ROWS & COLUMNS AS YOU SEE FIT

Notes
The cubicle is too small and does not allow for
space to think and get work done efficiently
I would be able to get tasks done quicker and to
a higher degree alone with less guidance
Alpha Inc. would become more internationally
diversified and I have a great interest in learning
about other cultures and exploring with new
teams.
I would like to choose the days and hours in
which I come into the office as it prevent Burn
out
5 star hotels, First Class Flights and an Expense
account are all necessary for comfort as
travelling is a large part of my role
3. What is your best guess as to the other party’s primary underlying interests and goals?
I believe that I will be asked to work from home and or reattend or update some accounting
courses. This is to ensure that I am still able to achieve and learn in school while refreshing my
knowledge.
4. What is your best guess at predicting the Other party’s priorities for these issues? ADD MORE &
COLUMNS AS YOU SEE FIT

Time off for an updated
education
1
Although it will be a paid
time off for class I will be
working from home.
5. What may be mutually beneficial or common ground issues?
I believe the mutually beneficial or common ground would to be to go back to school or attend
classes part time. In exchange the company can provide a travel expense account with a limit all
flights can be business with potential to upgrade. A new bigger office can be given however, the
view is something that will be sacrificed as the office faces a brick wall. Additionally, flex time will be
provided so long you attend all mandatory in person meetings and I will be allowed more autonomy
over assignments. Alpha Inc. cannot accommodate to rotational opportunities as they are currently
lacking the bodies and finances for a development of a new program, however, suggest that you
independently get together with coworkers to discuss how they could potentially implement
rotations in the future.
6. What may be competitive issues?
The competitive issues would be another company may offer a fully expensed travel account as well
as an office with a view of the park with no ask of completing an additional accounting course.
7. BONUS QS: Given your priorities and your guesses about the other party derive Multiple Equivalent
Simultaneous Offers that you may propose in the role play (use an excel spreadsheet if you wish)
