Teaching philosophy

My teaching philosophy is largely based off helping students find their strengths and passions.
I am a strong believer of the quote “The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on
fire” (Ferdinand Foch). The ability to tap into your inner passions and things that ignite that
fire is what shapes what you love. As an educator, I aim to help my students find this passion.
This comes in a classroom that is accepting and loving, regardless of race and religion and
prejudice. My hope as a teacher is that my students learn how to grow out of prejudice, help
one another willingly and find this passion that is going to motivate them to do better in all
aspects of life. I want to be a teacher who helps shape a student’s life – to make an impact no
matter how small or how large. As someone who wants to teach college students, I want to let
them know how important it is to use the knowledge they have gained to make a change – to
simply help others around them, to help them understand the power of time and knowledge
that they have in front of them. I think teaching extends beyond just standing before a classroom
and lecturing the students. It is important for one to be able to think of their class to be made
up of individual students who have different stories and backgrounds. Understanding students
and helping them in their stride is my goal as a teacher. As a teacher I hope to be able to make
long lasting connections with my students and lead them to feel safe around me. Students are
often faced with feelings of fear when it comes to asking for help, which is a rather unfortunate
reality. In the course of their time in and outside of class, I would like to educate them about
the importance of making learning a lifestyle, not just a habit – to be always curious and learn
about things not just for grades but for their interests as well. The motivation to learn should
come from within and I think a teacher has much to influence them on these motivational
habits, especially at a young age. I hope to create a classroom that is filled with joy and learning
with the best understanding that a student can gain from the knowledge that I impart.
