History of Chinese Drumming
The first recorded example of the ancient chinese drums or gu (the chinese
character for drum) appeared over four thousand years ago during the Shang
Dynasty. They were composed of simple hollow animal shells or clay pots.

Types of Drums
There are many different types of gu. Most are simple hollow shells of various
sizes that are traditionally played with pieces of bamboo.
