These instances create the pathway for rules and a type of ethical code that should be followed by them. Unspoken rules in a sense actually take part in creating a group’s identity by forming the way that people treat each other as well as how others see their actions. This can be applied to the mannerisms of athletes on a sports team, as well as people who go to church. Tacit codes in the world of an athlete are born out of a desire for respect as well as to improve relations between players as well. For instance, everyone on a baseball team must always arrive to a game an hour early in order to give time for warming up. This is a type of unspoken rule that everyone acknowledges in order to support the team the best they can. From the perspective of other players, this is a just action since it gives the chance for that player to be able to play their best that game. From the perspective of spectators or the other team, it makes those players look professional and well organized. Tacit codes such as this help to form the basis of reasonable action within sports teams by athletes who respect the role that they have to play. Because of this, Athletes feel a sense of belonging by understanding that they share a special set of experiences with their fellow athletes, as well as good relations that are developed. In the sense of Churchgoers, there many unspoken tacit codes that shape the basis of how to act during a church service, as well as in the building itself. Anyone who goes to church knows not to act out or be disruptive in order to keep the environment religiously intact. Although this is never spoken of, people know that they must abide by this since doing otherwise would cause the tarnishing of a holy setting and possibly conflict. By acting respectfully, other churchgoers are grateful for a calm mass, and outsiders perceive this as good presentation and could possibly convince them to join in. Tacit codes in this sense provide structure and respectfulness to an environment that definitely needs it. This creates a sense of belonging in that churchgoers are able to share the experiences of mass without disturbances. For churchgoers, tacit codes provide a stable environment to worship, contributing to a sense of belonging by showing people just how much they can relate to others around them. Unspoken rules such as these shape the structure of a group’s identity as a whole, contributing to the sense of belonging within the groups people through similar experiences and similar ways of treating themselves and each other; truly demonstrating how much people in a group have in common with each other.
