AP PSYCHOLOGY SUMMER PROJECT A) Required Readings: Use the required readings listed below in order to complete your summer project. Essentials of Psychology I, by Linda Leal ISBN: 97808789119307 Publisher: REA Essentials of Psychology II, by Linda Leal ISBN: 9780878919314 Publisher: REA Sparknotes: Psychology (posted on Ms. Fernandez’s webpage under links) ISBN: 9781411491319 B) Directions: Research and create a visual on the 7 perspectives and 14 key names. Possible formats include a poster, scrapbook, or collage. NO POWERPOINTS ALLOWED. The following must be incorporated within each perspectives section: 1. Description of perspective 2. Description of each of the key people 3. A real life application 4. A visual that summarizes the perspective 5. A visual of the real life application Below you will find a more detailed explanation of the assignment as well as the perspectives and people that you must research. Research: Read and research about the seven psychology approaches (Behavioral, Psychoanalytic, Humanistic, Cognitive, Biological, Evolutionary and Sociocultural). Once you understand the seven approaches, research the 14 names associated with each. Visual: Create a visual on your understanding of ALL 7 perspectives and 14 individuals. A photo of a psychologist will not suffice as it does not convey his or her work. Be sure you are researching the correct people and terms -- they must be related to psychology. If you are artistically challenged you may download images, or cut them out of magazines however, you must cite all sources and attach it to your work. Stick figures belong in elementary school not in an AP class! Real Life Application: Along with creating a visual on your understanding of each perspective, you need to incorporate an example of a real world situation for each perspective. For example, for the behavioral approach you can have a visual of a toddler being conditioned to put away their toys. Eventually with positive reinforcements, they will learn to put their toys away in their closet like you have conditioned them to do. (DO NOT USE THIS EXAMPLE) Approaches (perspectives) and Key Names 1. Behavioral approach o Ivan Pavlov o John Watson o BF Skinner o Albert Bandura o Edward Thorndike 2. Psychoanalytic/psychodynamic approach o Sigmund Freud o Carl Jung o Alfred Adler 3. Humanistic approach o Abraham Maslow o Carl Rogers 4. Cognitive approach o Jean Piaget o Aaron Beck 5. Biological approach o Roger Sperry 6. Evolutionary approach o There is no specific individual associated with this new perspective. Focus on mate selection, adaptation and universal behaviors 7. Sociocultural approach o Stanley Milgram Please keep in mind not to write pages of notes - this merely shows your ability to copy information not comprehend it. Choose the most relevant information and capture it in an image or two. It is essential that AP students are able to gather info and condense it to smaller amounts of information. Also, KEEP EACH PERSPECTIVE SEPARATE FROM ONE ANOTHER! For example, if you choose to do a scrapbook you would have a total of 7 pages. Each page would be assigned a perspective with the key names associated with it.
