
Kim jong- un

Supreme Leader of North Korea
We are
free!!

When WWII ended
in 1945 the
Japanese returned
to their island.

Korea was free
form Japanese
occupation.

Korea was “free”

What’s next?

In order to pacify the USSR and
Joseph Stalin it was decided to
divide the country into two
parts (North and South).

The division took place in the
38th parallel .

Soviet forces were allowed to
take control of the North and
the Americans would take
control of the South. (both
super Powers)
D
Aren’t we
free to
decide?
D
I want Korea to
be united under
anti-communist
ideology.

By 1950 South Korea was ruled
by anti-communist dictator
Syngman Rhee supported by
the USA.

The North was supported by
the Soviet Union
(communists)who had installed
Kim IL Sung as leader.

Both leaders wanted to re-unify
Korea under their own rule.
I want Korea
to be united
under
communism.

This led to “small
confrontations
between the north
and the south.

This was before the
war was officially
declared!
10,000 troops killed in battle
1950 – war was declared!
Oh
yeah!
Summer 1950
North Korea
invades South .
We’ve got to
do
something!
I know…. I
have a plan!
Communist
success!
