Strategic Intent refers to company’s relentless pursuit of an ambitious strategic objective, concentrating the full force of its resources and competitive actions in achieving that objective. Three key elements of strategic Intent includes: Vision, Mission and Strategy. To pragmatically understand this concept and it’s elements, Belize Telemedia Limited’s Vision, Mission and strategy was examined. Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL) owns and operates an extensive telecommunications network throughout the country of Belize encompassing landline, mobile, and broadband services. The company offers its expansive range of products and services. Elements of Strategic Intent: 1. Vision BTL’s vision is “ A highly proficient, customer-driven, strategy-focused, best-in-class solutions provider, outstanding in everything we do. The vision statement reveals the type of business that a firm engages in. Essentially, It should answer the basic question of “ What do we want to become?” Preferably, the statement should be about one sentence and the idea should reveal that as many managers as possible participated in development of the statement. From BTL’s statement above, we can see that it is one sentence revealing that the company intends to be proficient, customer -driven, strategy-focused and outstanding in everything . In fact, it highlights that it wants to become “ best-in-class solutions provider. Indeed, their vision statement incorporates different functional areas, reveals what the company wants to become and highlight the type of business the firm engages in ( solution provider). 2. Mission BTL’s Mission is “ Be fast and efficient in providing communication solutions, enriching the quality of life of customers, keeping them connected anytime, anywhere” A mission statement answers the pivotal question, “ What is our business?” Essentially, this is a statement of purpose that distinguishes one firm from other similar firms. As seen above, BTL’s mission statement overtly reveals their business; communications, and it highlights their distinguishing feature “ fast and efficient.” Furthermore, BTL’s statement declares their “reason for being”, which is “ enriching the quality of life of customers, keeping them connected anytime, anywhere.” Overall, this statement is their philosophy, clearly identifying their business. 3. Strategy BTL embarked on an ambitious journey “Destination Greatness,” a strategy that would set the foundation for the company’s evolution and stellar leadership as one of the TOP 3 telecoms providers for fixed broadband speeds in the Caribbean. This plan was a multi-year approach that would ensure that we remain at the forefront of technology, competitive and the top choice for customers. In only FIVE years, we would see the launch of a; 1. New 4G LTE Advanced Network 2. Submarine Evolution Underwater Link connecting San Pedro to Belize 3. New Convergent Billing System 4. The rollout of the National Broadband Plan (NBP) - Fiber to the Home. A company’s strategy is management’s game plan for running the business and conducting operations. In BTL’s strategy above, we can see their overt commitment to pursue a particular set of actions to grow the business, attract and please customer, compete successful, conduct operations and essentially improve the company’s financial and market performance Overall, we can see that BTL strategic Intent is centered on being “ the best” embarking on a journey for “ Greatness” and ultimately “ enriching the quality of life of customers , through communication solutions.
