Will O’Hara OTES – Ohio Teacher Evaluation System 1. Go to the Ohio Department of Education website and read about OTES – Current program and Pilot program. http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Teaching/Educator-Evaluation-System/Ohio-s-TeacherEvaluation-System 2. Give an overview of the current system – 2-5 paragraphs. The current system requires each school district to either adopt the original framework or use the alternative framework. This allows districts to monitor educator performance and student growth measures – and use this information to continually improve student achievement. The original framework is half teacher performance on standards and half student growth measures. The alternative framework is 50% teacher performance on standards, 35% student growth measures, and 15% alternative components. Alternative components can be student surveys, student portfolios, or peer review evaluations. 3. Give an overview of the pilot program currently being explored. Identify the key differences – 2-5 paragraphs. The pilot program is different from the current system in a few main ways. The new system will allow teachers to be evaluated under a few different components; such as a formal holistic observation, walkthroughs, a formal focused observation, and a summative conference. Teachers will fall under one of four categories, ineffective, developing, skilled, or accomplished. This process is collaborative, ongoing, and supportive for teachers. 2/20/20 gwm
